ABE suggestion - please can people be encouraged to have the politeness to either thank those of us who help them, or to recognise that we tried and tell us we were wrong.  The site is quickly turning into a chat room, and I'm all for that.  But if you want to keep it as an answer bank, then people need to have a reason to give answers.  Ignoring attempts at help is rude and surely against the spirit of the site.

Or am I just 22 going on 82 and being a miserable old goat?

Well, if you're a miserable old goat, so am I.  ( As I'm over 30 years older that you, perhaps I do class as one).  Even if someone said that your answer was unhelpful, at least you'd know that they'd read it.  People put a lot of time and effort into giving careful and well-researched answers.  A small sign of recognition makes it seem worth-while.
I agree acw. Back in January I suggested that we simply have a 'Thank You' button maybe instead of ratings & AB ed said they would consider doing that. Obviously it came to nothing.
To save being hypercritical, I would like to thank you guys for your input!  However, I'm not using this site anymore, either as acw, or annacwood because of certain policies which were imposed somewhat ruthlessly and without explanation at the weekend.  So I suppose I can say - thank you, and good night!

Like Robinia - I too posted a suggestion yonks ago, asking for an 'Acknowledgement' button.

I always try to thank people individually, or at the end of a thread, when I've rec'd sufficient answers. But we don't all think the same!

I have also asked for a "thank you" page but answer came there none - Thanks to all of you who have helped in the past.

Hey acw don't go - this has happened to all of us at some time or another. Gets the blood boiling and is probably good for your health.  Life would be awfully boring if the answerbank was staid and unemotional.  Even Ed is cracking a few jokes today.  Stay.

See I'm tempted, but more abuse from my biggest fan just isn't helping today.  See three posts above Nebitiza's, or about 4 posts above this, if no-one gets in before me.  Ho hum.  There we go!  Cheers though - nice to see some people are nice.  :-)
acw, I'd be sorry to see you go. Hope you decide to stick about for a while, or if you do go then please try to come back. I agree that the rudeness and abuse one sometimes encounters can be offputting to say the least but the friendly people tend on the whole to outnumber the idiots...

By the way - Ed has removed the post by the person I described as my "biggest fan".  So I'm not criticising myself OR smudge.  I might be mad, but not THAT mad!

I've had a little chat with Ed and I think we've decided to kiss and make up!  So I will be around for a while - although I do have to stop being such a loser and checking this site so often! lol!

acw - I'm really not with you - why have you written: "So I'm not crticising myself OR smudge"? I have no idea what you mean - so could you please explain?

Also, who were you referring to as your biggest fan?

Question Author

You see what happened is this.  There was a post put here, by someone who I've argued with before (It all started in the post about the legality of voting on behalf of a sibling).  In their post they were laughing at my real name being 'Anna Wood'.  I wrote a somewhat defensive answer asking "what's wrong with my name?".  I then asked the ABE by email if I was being hyper-sensitive in being offended by someone laughing at the name my parents chose for me.  Both those posts were removed by the Ed who emailed to say that the post by, shall i say, the-lady-with-the-same-name-as-Homer-Simpson's-wife had accidentally slipped thru the net.

I had referred in a post to being annoyed by a post "3 or 4 posts up from here" - after the posts got removed, it became very conusing and I didn't want people to think I was annoyed with you because I'm not! :-)

That probably made it ten times more confusing.  But perhaps my clues will tell you who had offended me.

Oh I see acw - I couldn't understand why you'd mentioned my name.

Thank goodness for that, I wouldn't like anyone to think I'd upset you. {:o}

Anyway, Anna C Wood is a nice name.

Oh & your fan being something I use to make pastry with perhaps?
Question Author
Not to my knowledge (but then I can't cook to save my life!).  The person has the same first name as Mrs Simpson, the cartoon character who is wife of Homer, and mother to Bart, Lisa and Maggie.  In fact, her first name is similar to Maggie.  Who were you tihnking of Smudge!
Totally baffled by what on earth this thread is all about. Cooking? Homer Simpson?
Question Author
It started off about people being polite and thanking people for their input on the site.  But then someone had a go at me and I responded.  But then the threads got pulled.  And now it's all gone a bit confuzzling.  It usually does.  :-p

Ben>I think they're referring to the infamous

Marge
