It does appear that a number of ABers get upset by some of the adverts which appear on this site.

Until today, I have refrained from blocking-out adverts, which are important to AB; in the knowledge that a superb site would not survive without them.

However,I am concerned about the flashing ones which I feel could be responsible for affecting my eyesight.

Consequently, I am now resorting to 'Adblock' and suggest that the Ed examines the whole question of adverts and the effect they have on individuals.

I get scared of that one where the screen fills with huge owls!
This Halifax fireworks ad is really annoying too.
Grasscarp, I haven't seen the owl one - in fact I don't notice any of them - and I haven't got any sort of blocking system in place.
The owl one is this company and when it comes on Answerbank about 3 of them are positioned round what you are trying to read

I wonder how AB collects the revenue from advertising ?
These are the kind of adverts I get.

I can't say that I pay attention to any of the adverts (although the owls are scary), I just filter them out in my mind. The only one which annoys me is the one next to Best Answer, it gets in the way of seeing whether anyone has replied to a question yet.
The owl is only in motoring. The adverts don't bother me. The talking ones did but they have gone. You said it yourself Ron... AB wouldn't survive without them.
I'm not clicking on any links to adverts. Don't want to tempt fate!
Sorry Ron, but without ads the site wouldn't continue (probably) being the free site that we all love :-)

Stick to adblock and behave yourself ;-)
I've said before I love the owls - makes it look like the site is printed on an expensive ladies notelet!
I must admit the rapidly flashing "This is not a Joke you are our 100,000th visitor" for prizegiveaway.org really annoys me

B00....I have acknowledged that AB needs advertisers to survive. However, if everyone took the advice which you have now given to me (Stick to Adblock) we would all be at a loss from the loss of AB.

We have always held the position that if you spot an advert which is, to not put a too finer point on it, crap, then all you need to do is let us know what it is for (and if possible the url).

I have said this many times. Considering the amount of correspondence you have with me I am surprised you haven't noticed.

Ron, there isn't a question to examine here.
I don't mind the adveerts, but must admit I do not like the ones that move.
ooo the ed said crap
Where do you see the prizegiveaway.org advert Calibax? What part of the screen?
(For example, was it directly below the latest posts, or lower than that? Or in the centre, or even at the top?)
I don't understand why Adblock would hinder the adverts? Afterall, it's not like they know i/we're blocking them. Or do they?

PS
Can't see me now in my PJ's can they? <hides>
lol BOO, they will be able to if the government take over being able to see all your text messages, computer input, phone calls etc. They will be watching you through the TV even though its switched off. BIG BROTHER is nearer than we think

I dont like to moving ads. I find them very distracting
Think I better get dressed then TOH?
