Know you are a lover of Nevil Shute books. I have been having a look through mine and find that I have 4 "doublers" - On the Beach, What Happened to the Corbetts, Ruined City and So Disdained. You would be welcome to any or all of these if you haven't already read them. Think you may have already read On the Beach.

He is off on his travels today - a meeting I think. Not sure if he takes his tablet/phone/laptop with him.

Thanks wolf, maybe a friend will let him know there's a post on here for him.
Do you mean friend or sparring partner from the news section? :-)

I am off out but if I see him later I will point him in this direction.

Maggie...will respond on Friday morning...if I forget, then please nag me !
Thanks for the offer Maggie !

I have ordered "Ruined City" and "So Disdained" from my local library, but your offer was much appreciated !

Why aren't more modern authors capable of producing well written books like Shute ? ....Hilary Mantell could learn a lot from him !

( controversial I know ! )

Agree Mikey, his style of writing has never been matched in my opinion. I've read his books over and over again and still get enjoyment from them.
And once again Maggie...thanks for the offer ! It would be nice to correspond with you personally on this subject, but its difficult to give personal details on an open website like AB !

Another of my favourite authors is A Cronin. I was always an avid reader as a boy, and my Mum suggested I read "Beyond this Place" when I was about 13 !

I have never looked back since !
Maggie and others....

I finished "Pied Piper" at 03:00 this morning ( ! ) wonderful book, although 1 thought that maybe the end, with the Gestapo Officer was a bit far-fetched.

I have already started "What Happened to the Corbetts" and am enjoying it immensely !
Finished "What Happened the Corbetts" last night !

I am in danger of repeating myself, but Shute was such a wonderful writer !

I have a few more "Shutes" to pick up from the Library on Monday morning.
