Now that JK Rowling has officially named her next book who do you think is the half-blood prince?? I initally thought it could possibly be something to do with Neville Longbottom, but have since remembered that both his parents were wizards therefore he is full blood. Anyone any suggestions as to who it could possibly be??

ok well my thought is that it may be Hermione but of course she is a witch and a mudblood, Hagrid could be the half blooded prince, Professor Lupin,  Or Lord Voldemort  is a mudblood,  Firenze the centaur  who also is the new divination teacher or could be  working side by side professor trelawny well there are many possilblities who could  be  the half blooded prince
I think the hbp is prolly hagrid like sum1 else said but hey its just a guess. 4 sum reason i thought it would be voldemort scince his dad was a muggle. now that i think about it hagrid could be the hbp. GO HARRY POTTER!! heh heh..who is mark evans?
does anyone know when the HBP comes out??

If you go to mugglenet.com there is a lot of information. Im not sure but I think there is said that they will release the date of the coming out of HBP in January 2005. Now it is a rumour that the book is going to be released in June. But go on the site and you will see.

Sure you are right doormat83, but it would have been too much information for the other books which wouldnt be needed, dont you think? And if she had told us exactly who the HBP is going to be or all the other stuff of the books, dont you think the books would have been very boring and very long, because they contain information we dont need yet. Also if we new all the stuff we could guess a lot better what will happen in the next book and so it would not be that exciting that poeple like us keep guessing and are that keen on the next book(s).

I dont like the idea about the HBP being a new character. I dont know why, but perhaps because she would have to explain this very important character and I think that would take too long which could be a bit boring. But of course your idea might be right.

I think it is seamus Finnigan i mean he said in the 1st book that "me moms a witch me dads a muggle"

that who i think it is

I checked (and I dont seem to be the only one) and Felix felicis seem to mean "The Happy Happy" (the Happy Happy-Guy or the Happy Lucky-Guy orany other combination of Happy and Lucky where any of the two qualify the other).
Anyway a question bumped into my head ... what could a so concentrated energy of Happyness could be used for??? And then any good kid that studied well his Prisonner of Azkabhan could scream "SPERO PATRONUM". Don't forget to need an happy thought to cast a good patronus. So this Felix Felicis could be a potion or a spell that keep someone happy so that his patronus could have a boost. Well it's farfetched enought to be a good hipothesis dont you think??
There is at least 2 spell we know about that need happy-funny though to be casted : Spero Patronum and Riddikulus and both are used to counter a specific creature that eat you using your fear or bad memories (dont know the english name of the one that need riddikulus to be banished) ... So Happy minds seems to be the most effective weapon against a whole brench of creature of the darkness, Felix Felicis could be a good potion when you r in trouble.
That last theory of mine is making me imagine Hermyone using her parents hilarious gaz (They r dentist) to have a better patronus.
Anyway I really really really doubt Felix Felicis is someone.
At this point we can only assume that this HBP will be a new character. It doesn't bother me as when Harry meat any new important character we discover a new branch of the magic world and that the part I love the most.

what if it is Colin he is a half blood. Evident in CoS, he got petrified

I really do think it is some thing to do with Godric Gryfindor.  He was the one who wanted teach anyone who showed magical ability regardless of what they were born.  I also think that Harry is related to Godric Gryfindor, his parents' lived in Godrics Hollow.  He also pulls Godric's sword out of the sorting hat in COS.  When Harry expresses his doubts to Dumbledore about which house he should be in ("the sorting hat wanted to put me in Slytherin" but it didn't because he said "not Slytherin) Dumbledore tells him only a true Gryfindor could pull that sword out of the hat.  Therefore I think Godric Gryfindor could be the HBP.  That doesn't mean that Harry could be for two reasons, 1 JK Rowling has stated that it's not Harry and 2 the book would be Harry Potter THE half-blood prince.

I've just realised what I've written doesn't make much sense!  Lol!  I think Godric is HBP and Harry is related to him for the reasons I mentioned previously.  It seems to tie in!  Harry finds out more about his past and JK Rowling has said that something Harry finds out in COS relates to book 6.  (he finds out that only a true gryfindor could pull out the sword)
I think the hbp is either voldemort.....coz the 6th book is gonna be about him coming back to power...right?...and jkr probably didnt want to keep a title that was soo obvious...u know that said something about voldemort...so she picked hbp to keep evrybodys interest....or it could an entirely new character......
i think parrot56 is right...but i have read hp5 like a million times n i DO NOT remember anything about Mark Evans being mentioned.....what chapter was it in???..was it in the beginning of the book or the end??? i think i need to read the book 1 more time...!!!
Felix Felicis means good luck in Latin.Ivote for the HBP being a new character. Also, someone said that Harry was a half blood ,but we dont even know that Lily was a Muggle.
I think Neville has to die so that Harry can kill Voldything
You guys are really dumb,i am getting on another site

Jk Rowling has already said its not Voldemort and as Volemort and Tom Riddle are the same person it's not Riddle either.  She has also said its not Mark Evans he was just a passing character who she had to give a name, it is just pure coincidence that he has the same name as Harry's mum before she got married (Lily Evans).  This is all on her website.

I'm still going for Godric Gryfindor!!

JK already revealed that it would be nither Harry or Voldemort. For me...it's the Dark Lord. Something on the first chapter in book 4 is a bit confusing. In book 2, Tom said that their father deserted his mum when he found out that she was a witch. And in book 4, the Riddle family has been found dead.

ummm...perhaps the prince is a new person in book 6..though it could be a really close friend of Harrys...theres just too many options. I dont think its Dumbledore or any other adult in the book...probably somebody who doesnt fancy Harry...at least thats what I think anyway...

I think the title of the book suggests the next book will see Harry learning of how Tom Riddle became Lord Voldemort. I think Tom Riddle as suggested in CoS had to face the same choices that Harry had to, emphasised by the same Dumbledore diary sequence-"Harry do you have something you wish to tell me."

Perhaps Tom Riddle lacked the moral fortitude of Harry and was possessed by the spirit of Salizar Slytherin and thus became Lord Voldemort. In a way I think this relates to the prophecy of Harry/Lord Voldemort,ie  only one must live. I think JK will link this in to the battle between good and evil/ Gryffindor and Slytherin/ pureblood and halfblood. Perhaps it will come to light that through the ages various wizards have been 'tested' in this manner ie Tom Riddle/Harry Potter perhaps even Dumbledore himself, and this is maybe what the term Half Blood Prince refers to, one halfblood who is chosen by good virtue who must battle the spirit of Salizar Slytherin who detested halfbloods of any kind.

Ultimately I think we will feel sympathy for Tom Riddle who I think must have been devoured by hatred to turn bad, I think the essence of JK's books seem to be that no wizrd is powerful by ability only and great emphasis is placed on the choices that one makes, and I think the Harry/Voldemort battle will be only a small part of a bigger battle that has been going for centuries between Gryffindor/Slytherin, coz lets face it every good book has a good versus evil issue to it.
