I was on the pill for about 8 years and I came off it about a year ago. Ever since then my periods have been lasting for about 2 weeks at a time and its driving me nuts! The first week is fairly light the second week is heavy. Went to docs they said my body should have settled back down now and they ran blood tests which all came back normal. They don't know why its happening and said the bleeding isn't in keeping with having an STI either (which I don't think I would have anyway!). Any ideas of why this is happening or how to solve it?!

CAJ....this could be perfectly normal variation of a normal menses pattern and the blood tests indicate that you are replacing it quite easily. One year is not a long time to get back into a normal period pattern and as long as it is not associated with pain or bleeding between your periods, I would certainly monitor the situation.
However, the next move would be to see a Gynaecologist who perhaps might resort to a D&C to give an idea of the hormonal response of your uterine linings.
I have to pop out now to pay a bill, so if I don´t reply for a time....forgive me.

The doctor did mention carting me off to Gynae but I didn't really fancy being poked at if it wasn't necessary! What does D & C stand for? No, there's no pain or bleeding in between just a straight 2 weeks a month of it! I think I will leave it a while longer and see if it settles back down again.
How long would you say it might be before it goes back to normal?
Thank you for your help, its most appreciated :o)

CAJ....back now 300€ lighter.
I see that you have been well looked after by my well qualified locum Dr. Salla Bananas MD female specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of Psycho.Sexual disorders in welsh goats.
I cannot add anything to salla´s comments except to say that I understand how you feel, it is almost certainly hormonal, but do not leave it for longer than another 6 months. If you get pain or vaginal discharge, then go sooner than 6 months.

Why Dr Sqadlet - thank you for that fine recommendation. Praise indeed.
I'd opt for the D&C myself. I had one done once for intermenstrual bleeding and a cervical erosion - it's not pleasant, uncomfortable rather than painful - but it did the trick and that's what matters. You should not have to bleed for 2 weeks out of every 4, not in this day and age.

Ouch! I know what its like, my moneys disappearing at an alarming rate since buying our first new home!! And now we have a wedding to save for too!
lol, yes Salla has kept me in the know and done a great job!
No probs, I think I'm due a smear in December so will mention it again then and if no better by March I'll try to get referred to Gynae. My doctor's a bit useless, looks at you as though you have 2 heads when you go and explain a problem you have!!
