hayfever injection
6 Answers
i am suffering terribly with hayfever and have no life at all when it hits.the only cure is a hayfever jab, ie steroid kenalog injection. i phoned the doctors surgery and the head doctor said they arent doing them this year. they werent doing them last year as when i asked about it at reception they had never heard of it. i had to see my lady doctor to get the prescription then see the nurse for the jab booking another day to do it. i think the doctor is being mean and watching the pennies. im going to see the lady doc tomorrow though its a different one now. what do i do if they wont give it me? i dont even mind paying for it as long as someone administers it, i could cry as i cant have windows open, go for country walks , have barbeques or be sociable outdoors. As soon as i have the jab i feel that i have my life back almost immediately.

Kenlog can be really helpful with hayfever symptoms. Even though it is an inexpensive drug, the problem is that the GMC do not advocate their doctors using it due to potential side effects.
For this reason, some GPs will not even prescribe it, and probably will offer you a course of oral steroids instead.

I do indeed sympathize with you as both Kenalog and Depot-Medrone are long acting steroids very effective in the relief of hay fever symptoms particularly if given at the beginning of the season.
The side effects are grossly exaggerated, in my opinion and are the same for ANY steroid.
If the Dr will not give it to you, then if you know a nurse....then ask her.
I cannot understand the reticence to give this drug in the UK.

I went through the same thing as you and after crying to my GP he referred me to the immunology clinic in the hospital. They prescribed me Grazax, which reduces the symptoms over a three year period until it is almost completely gone. You can also take antihistimines at the same time, and this has worked a treat for me!
