I am a 61 year old male with angina and C.O.P.D. quit ciggies 65 days ago and am 'smoke free' also started going to gym regularly. Have had itchy scalp for three weeks, doc prescribed betnovate scalp application + mometasone furoate cream + nizoral shampoo = CRAP second opinion doc prescribed 'sporanox' (itraconazole) 100mg one per day for 15 days. still on them day 2 today. Scalp and face itching and driving me crazy, was army medic in 1968 and army docs would have sorted in a few days, 100% better than civilian quacks. Any suggestions to stop itching greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance,
Bob

This has worked wonders for me: http://www.amazon.co....andruff/dp/B001DRDNKS
I had same itchy scalp, doc prescribed coal tar shampoo, cleared within two weeks/
T-Gel worked for you Mark?

Didn't do a thing for me. Neither did anything the Docs gave me. I had it bad.

Thanks folks will give that T/Gel a try, see if that does any good. I can't say I'm a fan of modern medicine/superdrugs, in the medics we worked wonders with iodine, lin. meth. sal. lead lotion etc, products which no modern doctor will have heard of, which is a pity.

Trial and error maybe

Try Oilatum shampoo
Sounds silly but would natural yoghurt cool it down if you slapped some
On? Plus a good antihisthamine- the benadryl capsules work in 15m takes the itch away of my severe hayfever. Not going to cure the problem, but hopefully will help symptoms untill you get a cure xxxxxx
My cure = chill out

I was covered head to toe....completely gone now.
My wife had palmer planter psoriasis, ried every horrible steroid and medicaiton under the sun- clearedf with days when she sued Manuka honey on it like a salve, and alternated with holland and Barratt aloe gel, but psoriasis is an incurable and funny thing, better to find what triggered it- bet it was stress.
Like I said - Chill out :-)
When I went to the doctors when I first got it, he said 'has anyone died'
After being clear of psoriasis for about ten years, mine restarted just before I was diagnosed with T2 and an under active thyroid. Polytar (love the smell...) and betnovate (God, that stings...) no use at all. Will try the T-gel - thanks, whoever recommended that.
pure almond oil or almond oil cream works for me.

Final update:- In desperation I visited a chinese herbalist (also qualified western doctor) because I couldn't spend another night trying to sleep through intolerable itching. She gave me one of the most thorough examinations I have ever experienced. She exlained that I had exzema, not psoriasis, and was not caused by stress. She explained that since I quit ciggies, and have developed an exercise/swimming regime, my body is reacting by 'cleansing itself of toxins' hence exzema. She advised me to carry on with the doctor's tablets, to allow time for them to work, and also gave me a pot of herbal anti - itching cream, (huang lian gao) advised me to keep an eye on my diet, and consume plenty of water. The total cost of this consultation including cream? The gran sum of £4-00. I gave her a fiver gladly. She had my shirt off and looked at chest and back, checked pulse, examined scalp, back of neck etc., My own g.p couldn't be bothered to get up of his arse and look in my hair. No wonder this country is being overtaken by eastern countries such as China and Japan.
