Just curious, how long does it take to get the feeling back in the lower body after an epidural injection.

Can it be given to last a longer or shorter time?

It depends on the procedure you're undergoing and whether you still need anaesthesia after surgery etc.

Depends upon the dose and procedure to be undertaken.
Not enough information by the OP e.g what operation or procedure is being undertaken?

Sorry I was economical with information Squad.

OH has a procedure today via Epidural, as a day patient. I was wondering how long he would be before I was needing to collect him.

It was 3 hours after that I collected him in a wheelchair.

He's fine now.

My old man told me off for crying on the kids first day of school ;)
We worry far more than they do, I'm sure she'll be fine. If they do have an afternoon, perhaps see if you can invite some of her future class mates round to play.

Sqad I think this may be as a day case as a treatment for back pain

depends what they put in - steroids are common and wont numb
but they may use a local anaesthetic in the epidural injection
and that will numb and will last depending on the compound used

No, it was for a Rigid Cystoscope camera in the penis Peter Pedant. A follow up from a flexible cystoscope.

The Surgeon mentioned the word tumor or blood clot this morning but thankfully it wasn't the tumor.

Middle of January, went in for a minor Op. they offered me an epidural, didn't call it that but that's what it was. Was second on the morning list, so had the jab about 0800. Was supposed to be a day patient but jab didn't wear off 'til late afternoon so I stayed for a nights B & B.
Much better than a GA in my opinion, was talking to them during the OP.

Ouch indeed,hope the epidural worked. From the my first appointment when pregnant I insisted I was put down for an epidural, much to the disdain from the earthmothers in my antenatal class. When it came to labour, despite 2 injections it only made my boobs numb. Obviously they've improved a lot since!

Prudie....with my son the epidural didn't work. It paralysed my legs but I felt all the contractions. When he arrived to change it I was told it was too late. I started to cry :-D

With my next son I didn't have one. I kinda regretted it at the end...

Both OH and myself have had epidurals for knee and hip replacements, but know as we wouldn't be getting out of bed to go home same day.

Its the only way to go as far as were concerned. None of the sickness coming round from general anesthetic.
