Life After Death/out Of Body Experience

I know this is an age old poser and boring to many, but I am interested to know if any reader has experienced this strange phenomena and what their feelings are about the subject (not necessarily religious). I have a very credible friend who is convinced this happened to him and now has no fear of death and an unshakable belief in an afterlife. What's your take on this?

Mine was massive blood loss, at the same time I felt a calmness I also experienced a rather arrogant (but human) sensation of 'They won't cope without me'. They didn't have to, obviously.

Theland, //Oh yes. Even some of the atheists on here like their spooky stories. //
And why wouldn't they? Who says spooky stories have any bearing on anything even remotely connected to religion? And whoever says it, why do you think they know more than anyone else and believe them? Must try harder, Theland.

I believe that comfort impulses derived from 'near death' experiences are the same as those that motivate religion - a need for Man to believe that there is a 'higher power' makes him feel more able to deal with the concepts of life and death.
As far as 'out of body' experiences - I accept the numerous posts from people who confirm their friends' experiences and that those friends can be regarded as reliable, and not prone to flights of fancy.
But that simply means that the individual believes what happened to them to be true, it does not make it a fact.
As I have advised many times, you can find people who believe that the earth is flat, and they would pass a polygraph, simply because they believe what they say to be a fact, even though it clearly is not true.
I maintain an open mind - but I don't believe in an afterlife.

Explain this. Five people sitting in a lounge five hours after a funeral. The room suddenly filled with an overwhelming smell of deceased’s aftershave. No one communicating for conformation. Then all talking at once. The extremely strong smell dissipated after about four minutes. Our loved one let us know that he was here. It was a deep knowing, and gave comfort.
