Tooth Extraction

Had a large back molar extracted in hospital yesterday, after fainted and threw up when the dentist tried to do it.

Sedation was fantastic - remember then putting the canula in, then woke up in recovery room with no memory of what had happened.

Thought it was too good to last!

After a day feeling pleasantly woozy and taking painkillers a couple of times, it is clear everything has worn off now!

Mouth swollen like it is full of ball-bearings, too sore to touch, feels like someone is attacking the cavity with a jackhammer, pain is total!

Not much sleep tonight I fear …

Outside of Chatterbank, the joke is not so clear ael. Pleased the pain is subsiding A-H, but keep the taking the pills today too.

Why? I was having it done under local anaesthetic until things went wrong.

I am sure you will forgive me if my normally robust sense of humour is absent right now, I haven't had more than four hours uninterrupted sleep for five days now, so if there is anything amusing in your posts, it's not reaching me.

It may be, not something I am really bothered about to be honest, if someone wants to measure my pain threshold and find me at the bottom end of the wimp level, I honestly couldn't care less!!!

Thanks again for the kind words, those who have posted them.

I have been back to the hospital today, and they confirm that it is healing nicely, but it's going to be another couple of weeks of pain.

I have had worse, I had neuralgia once, and I literally cried with pain, but this is running it close. Just nice to confirm that it is on the way to recovery.

No Pain. No Gain. That is what the men I worked with would reply when their mates fussed over them. I recall a primer cap exploding and embedding itself just above my eye.. A pal pulls his swiss army knife out and wants to dig the cap out. "Just stay still and I'll soon whip it out". He was politely informed his swiss army knife could go where the Sun no longer shines and this ain't 4077 MASH. The cap popped out on the next New Years eve whilst enjoying Pusser's Rum with said mates.

You did right Retro, don't want mates digging around with a knife unless there's no real alternative.

It's strange how different pain can respond to different drugs. I`ve just been on holiday with a friend who needs a hip replacement. Sometimes the pain is so bad that she is reduced to tears. Co codamol deals with and then she is OK. Before we went though, she had a filling and she was in agony on the flight both outbound and back (because there was a gap that expanded at altitude) The co codamol didn't touch the tooth pain.

I am delighted not to be surrounded by 'mates' like that, it might mean that I had to dissipate valuable energy sources by mustering the strength to raise my voice and instruct them to absent themselves from my vicinity - although given the pain I am enduring, that would be a shortened version of the request, probably just down to a couple of words.

Quick update - having been rendered unable to cope any longer with the level of pain I have experienced, I attended the hospital again this morning.

I saw a lady doctor who has sorted me out once and for all.

She advised me that the tooth had been infected before its extraction, a poorly completed root canal had caused long-term infection which caused the loss of the tooth. The infection had simply flared up again after the infection, and a spur of bone had pushed through the gum and rubbed on my tongue, developing an ulcer.

She has taken out the original four stitches, which she reckoned were put in too tightly, cleaned everything up inserted a dressing, and re-stitched it again and given me some anti-biotics to see off the infection.

I think I'd like to marry her!!!!!

I have thank you - I was doing that several times a day from last week, but obviously what I needed was the infection I already had to be treated.
