Wont this be a bit like, shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, as this cornavirus has already been spreading, wont it be a bit late in the day now.

'it seems a reasonable bet'

There are no reasonable bets as has been proven by the baby born with it. The damage to the world's economy could be devastating.
14.19 To save a lot of people dying while they develop a vaccine.
I don’t personally think it IS right to cancel big events - yet. It’s inconsistent with the government’s strategy for doing the more drastic measures in stages. But yesterday there seemed to be a domino effect when different high profile sports saw measures being taken and decided to jump on the band wagon
I don't think you will need an economy if everyone is dead. :0)
Keep an eye on Sky share prices and airline ones too. The piddly budget amount that was pledged to help companies is a drop in the ocean.
@14.25 The idea is, and what a lot of people are missing is that we need police / ambulance staff on stand by, not at the sports events.
The truth is no one really knows exactly how to deal with this: our governments strategy seems out of step with many other countries but to me it did seem reasonable.
On the other hand the WHO seem not to agree.
I’m not sure i like the “herd immunity” approach because it does mean stretching the thing out possibly for months.
But, like I said earlier, I can see the argument for
That's just it tho, teacake. The risk of death is very minimal.
'we need police / ambulance staff on stand by'

And if those staff start to feel symptoms and self isolate...... What then?
Some British company reckoned this morning they'd have a vaccine ready as early as June.
14.30 Well they might if they attend big sport events, even more reason to cancel them.
Eh?
14.32 well we certainly need it, were did you see that?
I have to say I didn’t really understand the point about “freeing up emergency services”

What for exactly? Possibly in future weeks or months, but now?
On a site with intelligent people, teacake.
Zac, to put it in a nut shell, we don't want medic staff of any kind standing about at any sporting event, waiting for some footballer to have a bang on the knee, and carted off to an over stretched hospital. May be all the sports doctors/ medics can go and give the NHS a help in hand when they are needed. Surely you understand that?
The thing is tho the trials could take months.
I do understand but I don't think you got my point. People in vtsl services (including power companies and their supply chain) may well be self isolating needlessly and in so doing, creating a massive downward spiral.
