Following on from Deamongirlie's Q, there is a guy I like who comes into my pub on Tuesday nights to do the quiz, he's hyper intelligent and I get on well with him, but on a barmaid - customer level. How can I ingratiate myself to him? I'm not a natural flirt because I always think it looks obvious, and then I get all embarrassed, but any ideas what I can say/do to get chatting to him so he might consider me as something other than a friendly barmaid?

I don't know how much scope you have for chatting with customers, but try talking to him about something that doesn't involve pubs, beer etc, to remind him that you do have an existence outside your workplace.

Asking him about himself is often a good way to attract a man's attention.

It's in the eyes. You need to smile really broadly at him, and hold his eye contact for longer than you would normally. If you have chance to give him change, let your hand brush his, again with the eye contact. If he smiles back, wink at him. He'll get the message - if he doesn;t respond, he's not interested, but you have your dignity intact.

Start with the eyes, it never fails, trust me, I'm a man!

Yep, definitely try the keeping eye contact for longer for usual and the hands brushing with change, and if you don't get any reponse abandon it. Well, that's what I'd do cos I'm menatlly shy and scared of being a stalker and would never in a million years make first move!

just ask the guy if he knows how many bubbles there are in his glass of lemonade.

tell him to let you know when he has worked it out.. if he comes back to you its not because he has counted the bubbles....tell him he gets a free glass of pop and a date if he can work it out...

LoL, good answers thanks. I usually end up doing a bridget jones tho.

I once butted in a conversation about cars just to get talking to a bloke I liked, I know ABSOLUTELY nothing about cars, they were talking about sports cars, and I managed to blurt out 'yes, yes, my dad has just bought a sports car'. To which the object of my affection turned to me, the first time he'd ever spoken to me directly and said ' oh, what did he get' to which I mumbled 'I don't know what it's called ... it's blue' .

The next time I spoke to him was about 2 years later!!!

There are two many stories I have like that!

I'll give it a go if he comes in tonight, eye contact, brush his hand, don't think I can wink at him!, I'll probably end up falling over something trying to keep eye contact!

*too
lol, good luck-dont think I'd manage the winking either-I'd look like a spack with something stuck in my eye!
Most barmaids flirt. I dont know any who havent got the hots for me...its their job - coz we blokes will go back for more thinking we're in.

Look him in the eye for a bit longer than normal, not minutes but say 2 seconds and smile, tilting your head to one side slightly.

That will do it unless he's gay.
