Right, here's how it happened. In the beginning God. Even the best science can't extrapolate beyond that. God is/was quite similar to us (made in his image remember) and got a bit fed-up being on his own. So he created man, and gave him similar emotions because he wanted someone to love him, don't we all. Also freewill because love not freely given is worthless.

That works for me anyway.
if you are only a good person because you are afraid of hell then I think you are obviously not such a great person really, are you?

and are you suggesting that christians don't receive bank statements...?

you may get a better response on the religion sub-topic - its in society and culture
I prefer warm to cold and like Heavy Metal...so I will opt for the Hot Place
Yeah but hang on whiffey, according the bible you can be super, fantastic, wonderful, nice, shiny happy person your whole life doing nothing but good, but if you don't accept God then you're stuffed.Likewise you can be Ian Huntley, Myra Hindley,Adolph Hitler, Josef Stalin and because you find and accept God you go to heaven? THAT doesn't work for me.THAT is disgusting, and if that's what God is like, then I can see why Lucifer had a problem with him.
I believe we are spirits who inhabit a human body, blending with the physical brain, hence we are partly parasitic. When the physical body dies, the spirit is released from its shell and returns to its home. (Which is here but in a differing realm.) The spirit then reviews the life it has led, pondering where it went right and wrong and what lessons had been learned. After this we can choose to return to the world again ie, reincarnation or do whatever spirits do!!
This version of my belief is the much simplified and shortened version.
I do not believe, however, that athiests are unable to be good, moral and wonderful people. Many atrocities are carried out in this world and it ain't the athiests doing it!
I believe in an afterlife, not necessarily 'heaven', but i do think that being on earth is a small part of who we are. I've always been told that things happen for a reason, i always keep that in mind when things go wrong. It's my comfort. Who are we to say if GOD is real or not. let people think for themselves. religion can be a very powerful force. don't mess with what you dont know. let's just all be happy and accept people for who they are, not what they believe in. at the end of the day we're all unique. x

Unfortunately, I have presented myself as, "preaching," and that is my failure, as my intent was to point you to the Bible which speaks volumes on the subject. Experiences can be decieving, and not trustworthy. The written word in the Bible, God inspired, is a better guide than experience or subjective opinions.
crete, the Mrs is fine thanks, she isn't a Mrs but that's fine, Yes we are sinners lol,
and please keep me a place just in case. I wont offer to do the same for you, would be a bit pointless really.
Theland, you got it really bad man!!
RATTER, I disagree, I think he/she has it good, and I am truly envious.
agreed nox

it seems you can be an evil tnuc for your whole life, but as long as you say the WORDS, when you get too old or ill then you are fine - what a joke!

Ratter15 - I got it really GOOD man!
Question Author
Whiffey -don't be envious, you can have what I have and more - go for it.
I've already read the bible (several times) and it's a collection of non contemporary writings written by MEN, and neither you Theland or whiffey to whom my questions were addressed have answered what I put to you.
I must point out that I was brought up with a religious background, I even played an instrument in the Salvation Army band as did most of my family and some still do, my family connections go back to William Booth (the founder, just in case you didn't already know)

So I don't base my beleifs and thoughts out of ignorance, I was just thought to challenge my beleifs from an early age.
Well I would rather go to hell having led a decent life, than go to heaven having been a nasty git but repented, what aload of crap,be as nasty and evil as you like as long as you read the bible and believe in god,you will be saved,no thank you.
Taught not thought, ooops!!
Where's Wardy??
Same here Ray!!
nox, the issue of works vs faith is longstanding, James is a bit of a thorn in the side of Paul.

Hitler/Huntley etc ? I don't know. But the rules are not ours. I think the concept of a dying God shouldering everything bad and then defeating it is something I keep coming back to. If the words of Christ from the cross (My God why have you forsaken me ?) are accurately recorded and true, just 5 minutes thought is devastating. And, why make it all up ?
