My friend has just rung me up saying he can't sleep. he asked me if i knew away he could get to sleep but the oly way i could think of was tablets. I agreeded to calling him back later.
Please can you give me some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Listening to soft music sometimes helps
relaxing bath
wind down and stop thinking about work/stuff you have to do ect
taking supplement like calms
milky drink
stop worrying that he cant sleep
you can get herbol sleeping tablets...Lavender oil is good - you can get the oil and pop a few drops on your pillow, I find this a bit heady so I get a sleep spray - radox do a good one, and so do avon, they contain lavender oil and cammomile oil....must do something as I've been known to sleep through alarms.
You can try hypnotherapy. You are taught self hypnosis and methods to help you relax and block out busy thoughts, switch off your mind etc. It is very successful, just ensure you pick a fully qualified and experience hypnotherapist, ask to see their crudentials

Thanks agin for your suggestions, i'm going to ring him back shortly. I'll let you know how he got on in the morning.

Well, i don't know about me waking him up but rather him waking me up!
He rang me this morning at about 4AM. To cut a long story short he said that 'after trying some of your suggestions out i had the best nights sleep in a long time'. He asked me to give you all stars but i've forgotten how to do it, apart from the link next to the posts witch doesn't work.

Has he tried counting sheep from backwards to 1000 to 1

Not sure if he's tried it but i certainly have. Or rather i counted the number words in a book or somthing similar, i varied it every night.
Just tell him, its not worth losing any sleep over!!
I find half a bottle of vodlka is excellent for a long and undisrupted Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz .
