Squad do you mean that the actual drinking the water doesn't, but it's effect ie making you less hungry does?
Both.......where have you read that drinking a glass of water before meals makes one less hungry?
It helps digestion of any food you eat, stop hunger cravings so you dont over eat, and also can make you burn off more calories, i think.

According to the Economist in an article dated Aug 26, 2010:

"CONSUME more water and you will become much healthier, goes an old wives’ tale. Drink a glass of water before meals and you will eat less, goes another. Such prescriptions seem sensible, but they have little rigorous science to back them up.

Until now, that is. A team led by Brenda Davy of Virginia Tech has run the first randomised controlled trial studying the link between water consumption and weight loss. A report on the 12-week trial, published earlier this year, suggested that drinking water before meals does lead to weight loss. At a meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston this week, Dr Davy unveiled the results of a year-long follow-up study that confirms and expands that finding."

The article concludes: "Moreover, the effect seems to be long-lasting. In the subsequent 12 months the participants have been allowed to eat and drink what they like. Those told to drink water during the trial have, however, stuck with the habit—apparently they like it. Strikingly, they have continued to lose weight (around 700g over the year), whereas the other participants have put it back on."
yogi...LOL

It dilutes the gastric juices if anything and hinders digestion.

molly......if losing weight was as simple as drinking a glass of water before meals, why do we see those fat @rses "wallowing" down the street, the billion pound weight industry, slimming world, gastric banding operations?
I don`t know mollykins, you tell me!
Drinking water prior to food would fill the stomach so one would feel full. If you wish to lose weight try 2 teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glass of water prior to eating a meal. The weight loss will be gradual and successful.
yogi/drB.....the main trial involved volunteers drinking a PINT of water before EVERY meal...........!!!! Of course they will eat less and feel full.

This in no way relates to mollykin's question.
1 pint = 2 glasses (equiv. to a 16 oz bottle of soda) - not a lot if you are trying to lose weight.
Gotcha, sqad.......think i'll stick to what i do best.......playing quality dance tunes for the masses to rave too..............lol :0)
drb....yeah! right.
because it is better for a young lady as you Molly, than a bottle of brown ale ;)
Good Day btw
I can't eat without drinking water. I can never have a meal without at least two glasses of water. It doesn't seem to affect my appetite in the least. Is this hindering my digestion Sqaddy?
