Conversation starters....
21 Answers
Hi...I'm from the US and am a single female...I'm just getting out again after a divorce ...I don't know where to start. I visit local coffee shops or book stores often, but find it difficult to start a conversation. Any ideas? By the way, I love the UK !

I'm in the States, but would love to come to the UK for a visit soon. I really like the pubs, but here I don't consider that we have any pubs, at least not like there. Here it is so different...just loud music bars, and I don't frequent those. I'd like to be able to sit down, have a beer and actually talk to someone without having to yell !!
Thanks again....I'll take your advice!

Hi Linda...I'm in North Carolina, a small town called King...near the city of Winston-Salem. It's about 7:30pm here....it must be very early morning in the UK? I'll be going back to work tomorrow after a 4 day holiday celebrating Thanksgiving. I took extra time off. This time of year is a good time to do that....trying to be ready for the next holiday!
Where are you located? Will you be off to work Monday? It is a crazy time here...people already geared up for Christmas. Friday shopping was dangerous...afraid of getting squashed in the lines!

You're right, it's taking your life in your own hands out there this time of year! Wish it could be simple...
So you're in Ireland? Many of my ancestors were from Ireland...predominantly last name of Mahoney and Farley...spelled so many different ways! And English side, Hatfield, Hale and Browning. I've longed to see Ireland...I'll bet it's beautiful there! The land of dreams I was told as a child!

Speaking as a male (as I have no other options) I would suggest that a good conversation starter which will get a man interested (other than 'dont you think I have nice boobs') (well you can try that one but it might give the wrong impression) would be to ask him something about himself... we love to talk about ourselves, if we find you attractive then you wont be able to shut us up.
How about doing some voluntary work, it's a great way to get out and talk to people, most of who are very kind and easy to talk to, it may build your confidence and get you involved in events and more involved in the community.
It's also a very interesting talking point when you meet other people.
Or join a club you enjoy which encourages talking such as a book/reading club where there's an immediate talking point.
There may be local groups in your area for divorcees and such you could go and meet other people who may feel the same as you :)
Good luck x

Thanks to you all....so many great ideas here! Where do I begin? (Well, I wouldn't ever say the "boob" thing...! But it is very helpful to know what guys do want to talk about !!) Everyone gave me great places to start, and I plan to turn over a new leaf!!! I'm very greatful....and I believe I will start some overtime at work right away since it's available and plan a trip to the UK soon....I can't wait! Yeeehawww!!
