Onwards and Downwards Continues in February 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner how about some healthy alternatives to chocolates. Here is one idea from xstitcher:

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/dietetic-banana-nut-muffins/

She says "These are really good and not naughty. I threw in a handful of dried cranberries when I made them yesterday. You could put on a dollop of Greek yogurt drizzled with a bit of honey and stick an edible red heart on the top. These are not naughty and well worth the investment of the Stevia sweetner."

I also did a bit of googling and came up with these:

http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/no-bake-thumbprint-cookies

both of which are completely sugar free :-)

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Hi Again Maydup. Now just to verify that what I say works I can tell you that since getting Diabetes type 2 and having a blood sugar count of 115 I have lost 15 kilos, gone down 4 to 5 top sizes (depending on the style) and my blood sugar is 44 with just 2 pills a day......normal is 31 to 44. I'm saying this so you can see that what I am doing is working....forget the blood...

OG try limiting your weighing to Mon. Wed and Fri. You might find that the results are more balanced.
Hi OG I agree with xstitcher . You are banging your head against a brick wall and getting nowhere . Leave it a few days and you might get a more positive result .
Oh I can't tolerate not knowing how it's going. I just wish I understood why it doesn't move as it should. It's not like I expect to weight 3 lbs down come Monday morning, but the way things go, who knows ?

Anyway toast this morning, as the loaf was getting stale, so a relatively high breakfast. But cauli soup lunchtime, and baked spud & veg chilli this evening, (plus the odd bit to keep me going) so I'm expecting a light input day overall today. So probably up another lb tomorrow morning.
Clear the step, I need to sit down!

Oh dear, three days away last week, followed by a leisurely weekend, topped off with a pancake last night ... its no surprise I'm reporting a 2lb gain this morning. Grrrr.

It just goes to show how easily things can get out of control
And that Maydup is why we come on here to confess as we know how easy it is too gain . Not a great lover of pancakes so not blaming them for a no loss this week I have stayed the same . You know you can do it so good luck for next week .
All my targets met...well almost! I'm down 800 grams to 75.8 and that means I'm finally below 25 on the BMI. Losing 20K in 11 months and reaching my working weight of 5 years ago has got me cycling again, so my summer target is 73K, which was my cycling weight 20 years ago.
Well done Jomlette
Thanks, wendilla. I'm still enjoying the low carb diet and heartily recommend it..

sigh

Allegedly up 1 lb over the last 24 hours.

Which means I'm up 0.2 lbs over the week.

Speechless
Well done indeed Jomlett, you're an inspiration. Do you ever get a sweet tooth? And if so do you have any tips for fighting it?
Good morning all, down one kilo and so very chuffed. We've had the daughter for a visit and she's on a vegetarian spree at the moment so that may or may not have something to do with it, but I don't intend to go that way..pork chops tonight!!!
Maydup, keep your eyes peeled for diabetic biscuits and snack bars. The ones you can get her are very good....can't tell the difference from the things with real sugar and they should fill the bill.
Thanks, Mayup. I gave up sugar years ago...I just don't need it. My tea or coffee is enjoyed without any sweetener. The sweetest snack I have is a between-meals conference pear. I have also stopped watching those mouthwatering tv adverts for food. Who can resist them? I can't, so I stopped watching them.
Jomlett thanks for that . I love my meat and fish and chicken . Its the cream cakes I cant resist .They just jump into my trolley in asda . Must have a word with the manager. Or that devil in my head .
Daughter just came home with three cream buns from the baker...she's as thin as a rail hmmmmmm
Forgot to say.....I've lost 15 kilos now ....bring on the band!!
Excellent news, xstitcher! How do you do it in that house of temptation? Cream buns are a no-no here!
You'll be pleased to hear that daughter leaves today Jomlett and with her all the temptations. lol
Why do you need a gastric band ? You seem to be doing well.
OG think about his -if you drank a pint of liquid you would 'put on' weight -its not fat. Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day because of the amount of food you eat. Jockeys can lose up to 5lbs in a few hours in a sweat box -this is not fat either. You have to consume an extra 3500 calories to your normal intake to actually make a pound of fat on your body . Also if you are doing more exercise in conjunction with controlling your food intake you may start to develop muscle which is heavier than fat so give the impression you are putting on fat which you aren't. Weigh yourself once a week (best first thing in the morning before breakfast without any clothes) and take your waist measurements every two weeks. Good Luck!
