We’ll be doing ours on the Thursday before Christmas. These days all the milk, cream, perishable stuff, has long use by dates so that won’t be a problem. And all the veg keeps very nicely in the cold in the garage.
When will you do your last food shop before Christmas?

Probably Christmas Eve, in my local Co-Op.
23 December, I’ll have it delivered.

I shall have my arm up the turkeys *** on Christmas Eve Tilly, not to mention doing the gammon to ‘Fran’s mum’s recipe’ (no idea who fran is, let alone her mum). And my arms full of babies, so no time to do shopping.
Those days are over for us. I have been doing last shops for 43 years. I have hung up my Turkey thermometer ( Never used) and Chefs hat.
All inclusive in the Sun.
We are going out for Christmas dinner, so no need to stock up on unwanted food.

Shops will be open on Boxing day.

All our food will be wanted.
And having been abroad twice for Christmas, this year with our three new arrivals, it will be totally different.
last deliveries on the 18th and 19th
I've done the main of it. There's only 4 of us for dinner and an extra 2 in the evening. I never really buy too much. It's also a bonus that his boss pays for it :-) Goose and Duck this year that are in the freezer. Nibbles are in the freezer and cheese already in the fridge.

I'm going to attempt to make some Eggnog. Never tried it. And a dessert. Just need to buy some veg and booze.

I prefer to squeeze my own limes, lemons and passion n fruit (passion fruit and ginger trifle).
egg nog is gross, don't bother
Oh really? I've always wanted to try it. Bottle of Bailey's it is then!! Now I have to drink the brandy I bought :-)
Question Author
Make you own baileys, look the recipe up online. Far superior to the bought stuff and you can use the brandy.
I'll be on my own at Christmas, so I don't have a lot of food shopping to do anyway. I'll probably nip down to the Budgens three miles down the road a day or two before Christmas and buy a small selection of these:
https://www.cookfood.net/menu/main-meals/meals-for-1
(I've only got a 'table top' freezer, so I can't buy my Christmas stuff until there's a bit of space in it).

I'll also call into Asda to buy a frozen giant Yorkshire pudding. One of those, with something like slow-cooked rump beef in brandy in it will do me for Christmas lunch. (I might do some veg as well but I didn't really need it when I did something similar last Christmas).

I'm already stocking up on things like Stollen and panettone. (I'm looking forward to trying this. I hope it's worth the money! https://www.lakeland.co.uk/62207/Borgo-De-Medici-Gin-Drunken-Panettone-500g ). So I just need to get some good quality cheese and probably some booze too (but don't tell the hospital consultant!) and I'll be all set up for Crimbo ;-)
Yes, I have a recipe for it. My BIL used to make it a lot. Is it actually Bailey's with Brandy? I think most of the Irish would say NO :-)
Vagus, are you saying that all the food you buy will be consumed over the three day Christmas period? If so then that's very good. So much of it, generally, is left to go to waste and binned.
Over consumption, at Christmas, is a trend these days.
Last major shop is being delivered tomorrow, will just get bread, cream and fresh milk on Christmas eve
I know...people buy stupid amounts! I don't waste anything either. My local shop will be open xmas day for anything we might have forgot.

Only buy what you'd enjoy eating if it wasn't xmas.
Buenchico that gin panetone got good reviews. This isn't the review I originally read. Its a pity I loath gin. https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/food-drink/best-panettone-reviews-italian-alternative-christmas-pudding-a8043981.html
Husband usually goes to a 24 hour supermarket in the early hours of Christmas Eve. If we’re missing anything after that we’ll do without.
Question Author
Tilly, it most certainly will be consumed, none will go to waste!
We have the menus all planned out which take into account leftover turkey, veg, etc. from Christmas Day.
The only thing thrown out in this establishment will be the turkey bones, and only after they’ve been used for stock for soup.
