Several weeks ago, my eldest daughter told me she was pregnant. After the initial shock and I'm ashamed to say anger (she's only 19) I was secretly pleased.

This morning, she had her first scan.........and....it's become they, THEY'RE IDENTICAL TWINS!!!!

Both she and her boyfriend are totally floored and I'm utterly gobsmacked.

I really am in a state of shock...TWO!

Hiya BOO :o)

My eldest daughter is 18 next year and I can't help feeling old at that thought, never mind me becoming a gran...lol.

Oh it is lovely..a brand new era!
Congrats B00 - just think, double the trouble!

Is that right WS? Didnt know that, so identical twins isnt genetic then?

Jno- i know, depressing thought eh? That's why I was so upset when she told me she was pregnant,as adorable as having kids is, it is in effect, your life over isn't it?
Yup that's right, BOO.

Identical twins are the result of a fertilised egg splitting which is effectively just 'one of those things' while non-identical twins are two eggs released and fertilised at the same time, which can be hereditary..and of course only from the maternal line ;o)
Yep, B00, it's just by chance that the one egg splits itself into two, whereas it's hereditary to release two eggs at one time. :o) x
Snap, Pippa! ;o) x

Well blow me down, learn summet new everyday dont ya!

Thanks ladies, as sad as it sounds i really wanted to share my news on AB, im so pathetic.....lol
LOL WS ~ unfortunately I went around the houses a bit. You explained it in a shorter sentence and it made more sense ;o)

BOO ~ I for one feel honoured that you wanted to tell us your news. I feel all emotional now *sniff*
Awww, B00! :o) There's actually five variations of "twinning" that can occur. It's quite interesting to read about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin

Heehee, Pippa! I can only usually manage "simple"! ;o)

My mum was a twin, too (he died at birth, though), and it's apparently skipped every other generation for the last 100 years or so... eek!
Funny you should say that about skipping generations, WS.

My maternal grandmother had non-identical twins. My mother has had no twin pregnancies or births, but during my last pregnancy I started to bleed very early on and thought I had miscarried. A scan revealed I was still pregnant and the obstetrician told me I had miscarried a twin...
Aww, no, Pippa! :o( x It is strange, though. I wonder if there's been any research into it skipping a generation... of if it's just us? :oS

Sorry for going a bit off topic, B00 x

I'm still sat here muttering "yeah gods, 2" to myself anyway.....lol
Congratulations Boo. Sure you'll be brilliant granny. x

Twins are a lot of work in the beginning but your daughter will cope fine, I'm sure. She'll have you to help her

Just read that link Whiskeysheri posted. Apparently my girls are female fraternal twins!
Congrats to you and your daughter BOO!

My sister was supposed to be a twin but sadly my mum lost one. Then my sister lost a twin herself and the other one survived..........a girl! We keep telling my neice that she is going to be the one in the family to successfully carry twins! lol She actually wants twins too!
aw boo im so happy for you. I had twins at 21 and loved every minute of it. i was a step grandma at 28!! my hubby was only 31 when his daughter had a child.
