Do you think/feel that you are on the autistic spectrum? I only ask because my partner is autistic (Aspergers) and I see similarities with how you and she communicates - as well as other things that she has difficulties with.
I believe you would benefit from an official diagnosis. I don't know how good the IAS (Integrated Autism Service) are, I only know how helpful the support can be in England. By getting a diagnosis you could access support to help you with many of the things that you come to AnswerBank to ask questions about.
Future employers would also have to make some allowances for you, if you had an official ASD diagnosis - within reason, you still wouldn't be able to get away with taking time off to have your nails/hair done, etc.
It may be worth having a think about. Apologies if anything I have said has caused offense, that wasn't, and isn't my intention.
Jo, yeah I've slowly started working my way through all the threads/posts. I've also read that other ABers have offered support with this previously. Abbey said that her doctor had said she isn't autistic. I don't know all the details, however I find it very unlikely that any GP could diagnose autism. My interpretation of it was that she'd been to what I'd call a 'standard doctor's appointment' and they've said, "you dont have autism".
As I'm sure you already know, a autism diagnosis can take a few hours, spread out over more than one appointment. My partners ASD diagnosis took about 2 hours and family back history, including a 1 hour consultation with myself. After the two video recorded consultations with my partner, they then showed the videos to a panel of specialists.
That's why I find it impossible for a GP to 'diagnose' ASD like that. Unless they do it differently in Wales, which I suspect they don't.
I'd really like for her to get the support that she needs. I know that so many ABer's, yourself included, are doing your best to help her.
