1st birthday

its my son's 1st birthday in 3 weeks i have got him a few small presents so far but need some more but have run out of ideas can anyone tell me what they sort of things he will be intrested in in the following months/yhear?

How about something he can make use of during the summer? Something for the garden like a swing set or sand pit...both of which can also be used for a few years after. B&Q or homebase would both be good places for more ideas if you consider something along these lines.

Why not put your money in a bank account for his future education ? Babies don't need loads of toys .

My sons used theirs as a stacking toy, a building toy, in the sand pit and in the bath. We've still got them even though my youngest is now 13 - they still use them in the bath!

Also a shape sorter if he hasn't already got one.

My son was 2 yesterday and people are still asking what to get him as he already has so much.

For his first birthday he got (amongst other things)

a swing (argos do a toddler to child one)
a ball pit with balls
stacking cups
a trike (with parent handle) that adapts as child gets older.
wooden bricks to stack, he still loves to pile these up but just so he can crash his cars into them lol

It really depends on the child. At 18 months old my son got a toddlers battery powered quad bike and at 2 has many toys for older children but I know he wil be supervised and doesnt put anything in his mouth that could choke him. But i know many 2 year olds that are still happy with toys that are for 1 year olds.

Try not to go over the top though, you soon realise that you need to find storage and that they cant play with everything.

Babies go through developmental stages so fast and each one has their own likes and dislikes, so some toys only have a very short interest span and some never. I would setlle for the things you already have for him and then have a 'half birthday' in 6 months time and choose him something he will be really interested in then. Or as Dolly said put some money by. When he gets a bit older he will want more expensive items like bikes, playstations, etc so save your money now so it's there for the future.
I understand what you mean we have been sort of guilt tripped into buying loads of things for our kids to show how much you love them ( I've done the same - I'm sharing my experience here lol!) but honestly at this age he values a cuddle more than the fact you've bought him loads AND he'll get bought loads by other people too. Honestly you'll be awash with stuff that in 6 months time you'll be desperately trying to get rid of in time for the onslaught of Christmas presents !

I really think a few small presents are enough, I got my son a couple of little things for his first christmas and felt horribly guilty lol he was only 6 months old, of course he didnt know what was going on.
I got him a swing for his first birthday and thats all.

Have a great day but as Hellyon says - you will have a house crammed full of toys that never have been / never will be played with by christmas lol

I think a few small presents is enough but if you really want to get something else then things like a sand pit, swing or slide are good, as they last.
My son's now 4 and he got a sandpit and little slide from other people for his 1st birthday, he still plays with both a lot now. From me he got a Liverpool football kit and, as he was obsessed with the hoover at this time i got him a toy one!

My daughter was 1 in February and we got her a few small presents and a mini trampoline for the garden. We suggested clothes to lots of other people and she got absolutely loads! She also was given a swing which she loves. Currently she loves playing with her Little People House and her dolls and cuddly toys (which she only started taking an interest in a couple of months ago). She also quite likes dressing up at the toddler group she goes to so that may be an idea? We are also about to get her a trike, using some pocket money she's been given as I didn't think about that for her birthday. We also recently got a plastic table and chairs from Tesco Direct which are great in the garden or indoors when colouring etc. Hope these ideas help.

My son will be 1 in two days and I have to admit that I did not get him ANYTHING!
He has everything he needs (and more), and will surely be getting enough presents from friends and family.

I refuse to buy presents just for the presents' sake.

I like most others got my son a swing for his first b.day plus zillions of other things but do you know what he thought was the best pressie.... the wrapping paper !!! he loved it. Another thing I bought for Lewis and that was a beanie bear with 1's all over it so its also like a keepsake for you to keep for him until he's older.

The present both my sons enjoyed best for their birthday was a helium balloon. I know that everyone has said the same, but a few small things is enough - if you must buy something else, my kids always enjoyed building bricks (duplo/megablocks etc). My eldest is still obsessed with lego at age 7. Another good buy was the bob the builder vehicles as these took every punishment and always lasted the pace. A wooden train set was another good investment, you don't need to go for brio which is very expensive - tesco etc do them and are just as good. A plastic tea set - especially for the bath - the teapot goes down a storm! Hope he has a great day.
