At 6 he is probably totally out of the understanding depth needed to grasp the animosity between you and his dad, try not to influence him so much and let him go along with his dad with more of a positive and excited attitude, he'll need his dad all his life and if he ever realises that you had caused him to wrongfully hate his dad, he will then turn on you.
Blunt answer even for me but it is my opinion.

I tend to agree with the above answer. At six most children would want to see their father unless he is getting negitive vibes from somewhere else. If you were positive about the experience and made it exciting for him to go, then he would feel the same way too. For your child's sake and yours I would encourage happy visits. As your child gets older you don't want him to blame you for his not having contact with his father.
I think you should post the question in Law as I think you are looking for a specific answer to your post and not opinions. (Incidentally I tend not to agree with the above answers, as I think a six-year-old can be very aware and sensitive, plus you have not said whether the father is abusive or has other problems, which would obviously affect your son's feelings).
