Ok, let's get the first one out of the way....

How do I know if my oven is a fan oven?

There's no little symbol on the front but everything I've cooked (which isn't much) seem to cook pretty quick and it's quite loud.

There's no model number I can google. Already looked for that to save myself this embarrassment.

I'm cooking a roast for the fam today and I want to give myself a fighting chance of getting it right.

not dumb Evian, it's just a new house.
whats the model - perhaps a pic of it and someone will know.
You will see a fan at the back of the oven, you will also hear it purring, it will often stay running for a while after you turn the oven off.
Does it have a circular grid on the inside, either on the back wall of the oven or on the top?
You'll hear the fan come on. So if it's noisy the chances are it's a fan.
Blow some smoke into it and turn on with the door open.
If the smoke blows out, it's a fan.

Burn paper if you don't smoke.

Most new ovens these days seem to be fan ovens.

What joint/bird are you cooking and how heavy is it? X
"I" ?

Don't forget, fan ovens tend to cook a bit faster than conventional ones.

Right, it's an Ariston and it's built in.

^Derrr, that wasn't there when I asked...
that looks like a fan oven (is that a fan in the back wall)

NoM, I got a leg of lamb. I'm not quite sure yet why I bought such a huge one but it's 1.95 kilos.
A nice shiny oven....don't forget to put tin foil down...

Yes, it's a fan. My fan oven has that and my other, non fan, doesn't :-)
Looks like a fan to me. And a very nice clean oven it is too :-D
Its a fan oven!
Blimey, are they meant to be shiny? :-(

Phew! Thanks loads everyone!

You have saved me from burning £30 quids worth of food. :)

It's likely the oven will remain that clean as I'll hardly ever use it :)

Ummmm, just a bit of foil on the bottom of it?
I've got a fan oven and I always set it 20 degrees lower than it says on the recipe/cooking instructions. I wouldn't go back to an ordinary oven now!
Evian, I'm afraid I never measure, weigh or calculate cooking times unless I'm baking.

With the lamb, I would be inclined to cook it slowly for a few hours on Gas Mark 5 (when in doubt, low and slow) and check on it every half an hour.

Hope it turns out well.
Boxy, no. That's just Evian showing off.

:-)
