We're having chicken salad to atone for the Indian takeaway and two bottles of plonk we scoffed and quaffed last night.

I can`t get any inspiration for tonight. I intended to cook a liver casserole as I am going to the ballet tomorrow afternoon and need something I can come in an eat straightaway afterwards but I just don`t fancy anything at all. Maybe I`ll feel differently later when the hunger pangs start

Well, it was going to be liver in rich onion gravy with creamed potatoes and peas - it was.......until I opened the defrosted liver and discovered that it was kidney...eek! So tomorrow will be steak and kidney pie, when I've bought the steak, that is.

Dinner tonight will now be smoked mackerel with a sweet chilli sauce served with savoury rice (rice in tomato, red pepper, peas and onion). 'Twill keep out the cold. Then bread and butter pud..

I've just made a thick split lead and ham soup and will do some crusty rolls. OH wants dumplings too but I don't think they will really work
