I want my boiled eggs so they have runny yolk but completely set whites
How long would people recommend? In cold water to begin with or into boiling water?

I too have hens but sometimes an egg is overlooked in nest box.

I know how to test but breakfast aint time for that.
No problem here...I boil my eggs as long as possible. The sight of anything runny makes me want to heave. Particularly the white.
Then test each one when you collect them, before you put them away. - its not rocket science. Its hardly a huge task to get a bowl of water and put a couple of eggs in to see if they float.
I get 3doz+ pd. I sell but its not impossible to collect a duff one
I Was not referring to eggs you sell, I was referring to eggs you personally eat. Its up to the people you sell to to test before they eat. I'm impressed with your massive flock of hens -you must have around 40 to get 36+ eggs a day! You must be run off your feet with all those hens, horses and running a top-class hair salon too, make me feel tired just typing it :-)
I have liveries too - lol
salon in lockdown so am here to bother yall

serious question - do chickens take a lot of looking after then? I always assumed you let them out in the morning, put them away at night and collected eggs and that was it. A sort of "got 2 might as well have 20" situation
tomorrow i am going to have sausages
Bednobs....I think the cleaning takes up quite a bit of time. I think their hen houses need disinfecting on a regular basis.
Plus they wreck your garden.
bednobs I take it you have no animals ? lol Hens -feeding , turning out ,collecting eggs, mucking out, laying down new beds, replacing water, getting them back in , feeding, checking for any injuries ect, then finally lights out. Not a lot of work but enough when you have other things to do.
Keep in fridge, place in cold water add a drop of vinegar to stop egg cracking, bring to boil for 3 minutes, job done.
most hens are off lay thru winter. Mine are barn free with auto feeds. The liveries deal with them.

For garden keep 6hens in 2x2mtr pen with kennel house type for laying. Buy feeds from Petsmart or similar.

Four square meters for 6 hens is cruelty and possibly against DEFRA guidelines but I can't be bothered to go look

//Mine are barn free with auto feeds//

Can you explain what 'barn free' means because all hens have somewhere to go on a night to keep them safe from predators

I suppose you have round the clock security for them. A twenty something hunk with a loaded gun watching out for foxes . Ha Ha

Three pages worth on how to boil an egg :-D

I have a cat and a dog - no chickens. I had no idea it was so complicated (or even that you have to follow govt guidelines to have them)
The cat's pretty happy if I feed her twice a day and give her a squidge behind the ears every now and then, the dog is just happy full stop as he's daft
Bednobs, hens are not classed as domestic pets, so you have to follow DEFRA guidelines on husbandry. There are many people who don't know this and keep them in very unsuitable garden environments. You have to deworm them, check for mites and they can get all sorts of diseases, some which you have to declare to DEFRA . On the flip side they are lovely creatures, mine are spoilt with about 8 acres of grass and woodland to roam in, but they pay me back with lovely eggs :-)
Just when you thought it was a done deal. Over a done with!!
Another problem happened this morning and yesterday morning. My shells are cracking when i put em in a pot of boiling water to cook.
Boiled eggs are only for cooking halfway up or higher when up Everest - a non issue.

Let's have an Eggs Benedict thread, far tastier!
