and sausages tonight.
Found the cabbage pie thing on YouTube and thought it looks tasty and a different way of doing cabbage.
Shredded cabbage, three beaten eggs, 80g flour, lots of seasoning, all mixed together then bunged in a frying pan, tightly covered, for 15-20 minutes. Turned over, sprinkled with grated cheese and done for another 15 minutes.

In other words a posh Bubble and Squeak.
A bland bubble and squeak. Bubble and squeak benefits from having lots of different colours, textures and flavours.

I don’t think it’s a posh bubble and squeak, just uses raw cabbage instead of leftovers.
You may well be right Barry, however a good blob of ketchup, mustard or other condiment will probably be partaken with it in this household.
Worth a go I thought.
Sounds ok, but to be a pie, ought there not be some pastry involved somewhere.
I would add bacon and onion, previously fried
OG, there is no pastry on fish pie, shepherd's pie, cottage pie...
Question Author
Forgot to say, also contains thinly sliced onion.
I had thought of adding lardons but decided not to as we’re having sausages with it, can’t take too much meat these days.
I've often stirfried shredded cabbage, onion and egg with plenty of seasoning, it is delicious but I don't think I would fancy flour thrown in on it, I could imagine that would be a little stodgy with the cheese on top - enjoy it, I like a few chilli flakes on mine just for a kick
I do something very similar with courgette and serve it with fish. Courgette sliced lengthwise, salted and left between sheets of kitchen paper to draw out the moisture. Fry in a little oil until browning, add grated cheese
Ah, fake pies, Barry. Quite so. I stand corrected. But even then they substitute potato don't they.
I do baked cheesey cabbage.
Finely slice/shred cabbage. Lightly cook until just soft.
Mix with sauteed shallots or spring onions + minced garlic , salt, pepper, any other seasonings or herbs you fancy. Layer in a baking dish with cheese...I've used Boursin and extra mature cheddar. Pour over double cream and a bit more grated cheddar. Bake until golden and bubbly. Goes really well with sausages.
A pizza is also a pie, OG
I don't believe that for a moment. I've heard the expression and figured it was just a fun thing to say, but bread on the bottom does not a pie make.
Pasta, I'm gonna try your recipe there, a bit like mine but i never put mine in the oven, sounds delicious
I'm not a huge fan of cabbage ducksie...but I'll eat loads of this.
I love it, and sprouts, kale, anything green - I will find a way to eat and enjoy - never liked cabbage as a child I might add
Question Author
That does indeed sound very tasty Pasta. I used to make cabbage in cheese sauce..steam the cabbage, put into oven proof dish, cover with cheese sauce and shove in oven till brown.
I’m guessing the addition of flour will make it a bit kind of cakey or something in the middle, a bit firmer. Will let you know how it turns out.
Question Author
Don’t bother.
It was dry ish, not very tasty despite the addition of mustard powder, salt and pepper.
It all cooked ok, the cabbage and onion were very tender, the cheese melted on top.
Not recommended though, rather have just steamed cabbage, or cabbage in cheese sauce.
At least you gave it a go. The reviews weren’t good
Question Author
You’re right Barry, they weren’t were they.
I was hopeful if I added a few extra bits of seasoning it would be ok. It wasn’t, and worse than that was the texture.
