because i do and have not died yet but sometimes think can i keep heating and cooling this
I add half a ton of baked beans, makes the sauce nicer and thicker
If you keep reheating it will go mushy. Better to just reheat the amount you want to use
^half a ton? Bit ovet the top!
My preference is to reheat only once...ever.
When cooking for others, that's drummed into you. So that's what I still do.
If you do, I hope it's until bubbling.
Ha ha, half a tin!
roadman; I heat and reheat until it's all gone. Each time, I add something new to make it a bit different. The final addition would be some curry powder or Madras curry paste. Some stews have been on the fire for years. They will have a tiny percentage of Victorian ingredients still lurking around in there.
Not so much these days but in the past I've kept curries on the go for months, topping up from time to time. I see no reason for not doing the same with stews. I would however recommend only heating up the portion for immediate consumption.
Canary; "I would however recommend only heating up the portion for immediate consumption."
I guess you keep the rest frozen?
I never make enough to make it worthwhile freezing the leftovers. I just heat up the remains the day after and make sure it reaches boiling point for a good 10-15 mins before using.
Funny, I'm eating my missus veg stew at the moment.
onion
carrot
parsnip
chilli beans
Courgettes
Baby sweetcorn
garden peas
Leeks
Cayenne pepper
Chilli powder
Tinned toms
Garlic
swede
knorr veg stock
I used stock cubes until I realised how much salt content was in them. Now just use flour to thicken up a little.
Lentils will thicken a stew and canned chickpeas.
Another thing I'd add is some stewing beef.
Pearl Barley
In veggie soup Tills?
Seasoning.
To your list OP peas black pepper no celery, mines a beef stew that I make
Quite Tilly.

But one nice addition to any stew is tabasco. Just dont overdo it. English mustard and Lea and Perrins also good for a bit of punch,
Yep, masterchef has suggested what I was going to, my mother always added pearl barley to stews.
Don't think I'd like a purely vegetable stew - just usually have stewing steak, carrot, onion, turnip done with Bisto/Oxo + dash of Lea & Perrins.
