Please, can anyone recommend a reliable, four slice toaster that comes at a reasonable price? Once again ours has gone on the blink and it seems like only yesterday that we bought it, actually a couple of years but it has never been what I would call reliable from the start.

I don't need one that is all singing all dancing and does buns or has a reheat facility or a rack over the top, just one that will toast brown and white bread evenly and reasonable quickly. Am I asking too much?! Should I return to using the grill?

As always we get what we pay for and if you have high usage as suggested by your 'four slice' request there is only one make.Itll cost abit more than most others but it will last you years and years...DUALIT
There are plenty of 4 slice toasters in Argos starting at 14.69!! for a Cookworks but as janzman said, you get what you pay for. We use a Tefal Avanti Hi-Speed 2 slice but I bought my daughter the 4 slice version and we've both had them for years. Dyas sometimes have them on offer if you have one near you. I just put the rack in the cupboard!
Breville have been making the same type of toaster for years, with only slight changes to styling every so often. Our original is still going strong after 12 years, and we like the fact that it takes up less worktop space than many of today's other 4-slice toasters. Have a look here. (Tip: You might find it for less in a discount store)

Thanks for both the answers here. I can see the theory of you get what you pay for, but, at the moment, I don't think that finances will run to the Dualit model!

I shall investigate the Breville one, but usually find that Argos prices are pretty good.
Why can you never get a toaster that is clear, so you can check your toast while it's still down? And ones that when you do crumpets/ potato cakes ect dont burn the ends of your fingers off when you try to get them out?

Actually, perhaps there are toasters like that, but I can't afford to re-mortgage my house to purchase one.
