You can't beat potato and leek for easy-peasy, so is carrot, lentil and coriander.....I also make a sweetcorn chowder-like a stew in a bowl...and Spanish chickpea soup-those are from one of my fav veggie cookbooks.

You can get instant miso soup in most health food shops, and Sainsbury's do it also...look for Clearspring brand.
"mashed potaoes with loads of pepper and butter are my very fave comfort/hangover food"

Thirded.

Never tried sake -might snaffle a bottle or two ive bought for R-he'll never know lol
We had chicken one day last week, and I made stock wrth the carcase, an onion and carrot, sieved it when it was ready, added a large dollop of tomato pureee, and a bag of ready diced veg from Tesco (£1). Salt and pepper and blitzed it all together. Mmmmm it was delicious and SO easy.
I don't.
No! I try not to take my soup-based leads from Quack "doctors" (although, as we all know, she isn't one). I didn't even know who she was until the back end of AB showed that people were arriving at the site after searching for "Who is Gillian McKeith?" and "Is Gillian McKeith really a doctor?" !

As for getting hold of Miso - it should be easy enough, I imagine most decent supermarkets should stock it (I don't know though, I get mine from the Chinese shop in Leicester). If he likes hot stuff pick him up some red miso too - it is beyond excellent, lovely an hot and really good for cold winter evenings.

Thats the type of soup I usually make.I dont use 'fresh' veg.I just lash frozen veg in - have every concievable veg -even frozen diced onion and garlic -its so much tastier than fresh and I can have a pot of soup on in minutes -great :)
Would also appreciate a decent Chowder recipe - can you make it with oily fish (like mackerel) instead of haddock?

What stock Pixi-?
I use fish stock. I would also use mackerel....
I should have mentioned re the Miso....if you go to a health food shop-you'll find not only the packets of instant, but also the far more authentic miso paste.

Once you've made my tomato soup, you'll know why.:-)
Jem...I don't eat tinned soup.
I didn't know you could get instant, Pasta? I mean, the paste is pretty instant in itself!
