Sweet Corn Viability...

I found an old packet of sweet corn seeds, which are a variety that I particularly like (Hookers Sweet corn Heirloom).
The sell by date on the packet is 05 2011.
I decided to take a chance and sow some yesterday, 4 grains to each spacing, to hopefully cover any loses. I'll be keeping an eye out over the next couple of weeks for any new sprouts.
Just wondered if anyone had any luck with old corn seed like this ?

Never tried, but in my limited gardening experience seeds don't go off overnight. They stop being viable gradually. So I'd expect fewer to germinate but what did would be ok. Three of years late ? Would be interested to hear how you got on, it is a fair while past 'sell by', not sure how far past 'use by'. But we hear of seed from prehistoric times still proving to be viable.

Thanks OG, I think seed viability varies widely between different species, so I'm hoping to be in with a chance.

Never tried old sweetcorn, but I've definitely planted old packets of flower seeds Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Goog luck!
