Sometimes as I type, letters don't appear. Is there any reason for this and what is the solution? TIA

Increasing the memory of a laptop isn't easy because it involves opening up the case, which can be very tricky. (It's far easier with a desktop because you simply need to undo a few screws, plug in the new memory module and replace the screws). I'd recommend uninstalling MSE and using Avast! instead: http://www.avast.com/en-gb/index

Wireless or wired. Wireless will probably need new batteries, wired may need cleaninf.
Thank you, this has just happened to me when I went to goggle something.
Is it certain letters?

If so, then a faulty keyboard.
If there's simply a delay (of up to a few seconds) in typed letters appearing then something is hogging all of the processing power, or all of the available memory, on your computer. The most common cause is an antivirus program performing an update. (If you've got Microsoft Security Essential, it's update application, called MsMpEng.exe, is notorious for causing this problem but other security programs can do the same thing). Increasing the amount of memory in your computer usually fixes the problem.
With so many pieces of technology you can type into nowadays I am always amazed when people give so little information.

Is it a computer, a phone, a tablet, or what.

If it is a computer is it a desktop, a laptop, a wired keyboard, a wireless keyboard, a Windows computer, a Mac.

It is a bit like coming on here and saying there is something wrong with my car, has anyone got any idea what it is.

For people to help with technology problems we need information, without it we are guessing.
