The Y engine is so-called because when it goes wrong all the time you pull your hair out and scream "why? Why? why?" all the time. The Z engine was developed from the Y engine and was so problematic that the engineers used to fall asleep trying to fix them..."Zzzzzzzz"....I reckon!
