I've been offered a job, but the hours don't fit in with my kids school run. I was offered the job last week, and told them I accept. Now it's difficult because the school cannot accommodate my working times, they have closed down the after school tea club. The hours are 9.30-6, long days. I now I have to decline the job, but dnt know what to say. The manager asked me to drop her an email in terms of a start date, should I just email her explaining my situation and reason to decline. When I applied the hours hadn't been specified on the advert. I feel so bad.
Just set out the reasons in the same way as you have done here. It may be worth saying what hours you would be able to do just in case they might be prepared to be flexible
I agree with FF its all you can do....say you are sorry to let the company down but the sudden change in school activity has meant that you can't do the later hours. They may be prepared to offer you something different but you won't know if you don't ask.
Agree with Woof best to be open and they might consider that you're honest and still want the job. Good luck, it must be so difficult when your needs are such that it would benefit you to do the work. Post back and let us know how it goes please.... I hope for the best for you x
I emailed the manager and declined the job, explaining why, and also stating which hours would be suitable for me at this time. She replied saying the cannot accommodate the hours I requested at the moment, but will keep my details on file for future. I didn't ha e anyone to help woth school run, short term my friend would have done it, but long term would have been an issue. Thank you all for your help. X
