School Uniforms

Not having any children, I had no idea this was still going on.
When I went to secondary school, the school (as did all the schools in the town) had an arrangement with a local clothes shop who had the sole rights to sell the school’s uniform (blazers, ties, gym kit etc). Even at the age of 11, I knew that this arrangement involved an illegal kick-back to the school for giving them the exclusive rights (otherwise why not allow any shop to sell the stuff).

You jump on anyone who you think may come anywhere near showing you up for what you are , accusing them of being on medication or worse. You show yourself up. No one has 'put me straight', as I have debated my corner, with evidence based opinions. All you have done is agree with others to try to make my opinions look invalid. In educated circles, informed debate is far better than name calling.
APG, everyone is aware there are cheap clothes available and nearly everyone knows where to go to get them. However, you try letting one of your kids rock up at school wearing the 'wrong' item of clothing and see what happens. 'Similar' is not 'proper' when it comes to school attire.
By the way, i'm always calm.

Naomi the link I put up regarding school uniforms is current -this season 2021. Please.....before replying do read the relevant links or it tends to make one look a bit ignorant. If one wants to pay £300 for school clothes, then one will, and no doubt go to the Press, One can also pay less than half that. Parents still have to buy clothes. Unlike yourself Naomi, I don't count up how many people have agreed or disagreed with me on a thread, I find that a bit infantile and needy to be honest. I'm not here to count up my Yays and Nays just give my opinion. Who would think someone of your perceived intelligence could get all in a hot flush over school uniforms lol! Now go on, have the last word, everyone knows you really really need to LoL!
To add more of my two penneth, there has been a moan in my family about the purchasing of a Cricket Helmet. Due to Health and Safety blah blah, one of grandson's has been told to purchase his own. The school provide everything else if you want including a box(urrrghhhhhhh) but he needs his own bash hat. £125 a shot for the cheapest for something worn a few months a year is a bit steep.
And it is against the law to sell second hand helmets remember.

We must be lucky as my friends twins have just gone up to secondry school and purchased all their uniform from Asda and M & S and brought the school badges from the school (cheap at £2 each). Shoes as per usual from Clarkes which were the most expensive items. Polo shirts in Asda are £3/£4 and even M & S school uniform is not that expensive. Socks and thick tights brought at the local Market.
My daughter is still in primary we have I school supplier for "proper" badged kit but a pragmatic head who let's the wear unbadged same colour stuff. Most of them (I think) probably have 1 set to the good stuff for photo days etc and the rest from supermarket. He most expensive bit is the winter pe kit. That's primary though. The local secondary has 4 houses all with different kit with 1vsupplier
Leon, my grand-daughter is starting Horse-riding lessons. I've bought her a riding hat -what the problem? if you have to have safety equipment its just something you have got to cough up for -what the alternative? The sports club/school buys it for you? As long as a piece of safety equipment has the right kite mark does it matter if its 'naff'? If you are bothered about that be prepared to pay the price!
