Basically my hours have been cut in selco to 24 hours for 4 weeks as I am not grasping the products with it becoming summer it is getting busy and they can't have another cashier with me so if I don't grasp within 4 weeks won't be able to have me as a cashier. I am very upset as I enjoy it.

Abbey, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the reason your hours have been reduced is because you asked for time off to go to the hairdressers.  We tried to tell you.

What you need to understand is businesses need staff they can rely on.  They pay you to be there to do the job you're paid to do.  If you decide you need Friday off to get your hair done, that's no good to your boss who suddenly finds his rota won't work because you're listed and suddenly you won't  be there.  You're lucky he gave you Saturday instead really.  A lot of bosses wouldn't - and I certainly wouldn't.  I'd be well and truly miffed.  I want people I can rely on.  Anything less is no good to me or my business.

Just imagine turning up for your hairdressing appointment only to find your hairdresser has decided to do something else that day.  That salon couldn't run if the staff did that.

I hope for your sake you haven't shot yourself in the foot, abbey.  Your boss is very patient with you but that might not last forever.

Question Author

No because I was told before I asked for the day off about the overtime ban.

I understand if I asked to finish early to have hair done but I give notice and agreed to work a different day.

It just after my 2 week trial he said I would get my contract.

Question Author

What booking a day off for my theroy test? Is that not reasonable?

It's still messing your boss about, abbey.  Asking for time off to have your hair done is not good.   Fit your private life around your job -  not the other way around.

What jobs do your friends do?

Question Author

Pretty much ally friends do different jobs.

Since your two week trial you were asked to improve, you have jiggled about with your days at work so its no wonder you haven't been offered a full time contract yet. You MUST continue to prove you are relible and capable employee so they will keep you on. Remember how long it took you to get this job

Question Author

This was back in March and I was getting full time up until now

Question Author

Someone also rang in sick other day after they had been on the lash the night before.

abbey, if you muck them about they won't keep you.  This should be a lesson for you.   Just do the job.

Question Author

I've never mucked them about as I asked for the day off after my boss told me.

It doesn't matter what other people do.  They are your boss's problem.  Just take care of your job and do it properly.

It doesn't matter what other people do, Abbey.

Question Author

I can't see me in another job but can't live on 10 hours.

Abbey, just been reading the posts - it seems to me that, with every job you get, there are problems with cutting your hours for one reason or another.  While there may be valid reasons, I wonder if you are somewhat to blame by your actions?  Personal issues, such as hair, nail appointments, etc. should be arranged outwith working hours.  Show willing.

Question Author

With my hair has to be done in advance and I do shift work. Anything like dentist, theroy test etc has to be in advance also I haven't told them why I booked that day off.

But it's things like wanting to take a day off at short notice so you can go out, and not wanting to work weekends, even though you were told you'd have to.

Question Author

I have worked Saturdays and can work Sundays.

Abbey, thousands of people do shift work and manage their personal lives around it.  If you want to keep your job you'll just have to learn to do as they do.

Question Author

I'm trying this supervisor told me to ask if not sure but jas a go at me if I ask.

Abbey you say you don't work a full 37 hours full time so why on earth can't you fit in your appointments around your shifts? Surely they give you your rotas in plenty of time to organise your life.
