Basically my hours have been cut in selco to 24 hours for 4 weeks as I am not grasping the products with it becoming summer it is getting busy and they can't have another cashier with me so if I don't grasp within 4 weeks won't be able to have me as a cashier. I am very upset as I enjoy it.

The constant changes in hours could make the job unsustainable soon if you need regular income and peace of mind- it was 37 hours originally, then reduced to 24 (see this June 10th thread), up to 27 hours next week then only 10 the week after. I wonder whether they are trying to ease you out- are others having such variations in hours?

Incidentally, this thread is a month old- so will it drop off Latest Posts by tomorrow?

Abbey, your future financial security, job prospects etc don't rely on the 'predictions' made by a psychic. If you seriously want a better future for yourself, you'll surely try to make a decent go of a decent job? Last year was dire for you, and 2024 doesn't - yet- show much of an improvement.  You'll maybe need to give yourself a bit of a shake...

Abby - you need to understand about work and responsibility.

I was a teacher of English (important GCSE subject, yes?).  Now remember when you were at school.

If I had not turned up to teach you a lesson because I had taken time off to have a hairdo - you would not have been happy, would you?  Add on that I perhaps needed time off because my daughter had a birthday party so you had a 'cover' teacher and a worksheet to plough through instead of being taught something new, reactive and vibrant....... How would you have felt?

You must not take time-off for hair, nails or anything personal. If you do so you will be considered unemployable.  Please understand this.  You please your employer - not you!

You are doing OK financially.,You have a home, you regularly get takeaways, buy lots of clothes, get gel and fancy nails done, go to the hairdressers, go out socially a fair bit involving alcohol, pay for a psychic reading (they aren't cheap), were having driving lessons, presumably have a smartphone on contract and they're not cheap either. You're not exactly on the breadline.

Aunty that what I'm trying to do I just want to eventually have a 37.5 contract and be appreciated.

One of the girls I work with took time off to have her nails or kicked up a fuss when they tried tp say she had to work that day.

Abbey if they can change your hours weekly then you are on a zero hours contract pending your probation period. Many companies now only offer zero hours, it doesn't mean you work no hours, it means you are not contracted to do a certain amount per week. This is more common in the hospitality industry where some weeks are busier than others. You don't normally get 'overtime' on a zero hours contract as you are not contracted to do x amount of hours therefore 'overtime' does not exist. You should be on your best behaviour while on probation abbey not 'kicking off' when you can't get time off. Jou may end up without a job and no references.
