Friends & family

Abbey, it's the same people that you've hidden things from for the past couple of years. To me it seems equally embarrassing not to be able to tell friends and family where you're working. And people aren't daft, they must guess that you're not in a dream job, aren't making your way up some sort of career ladder...

Question Author

Yeah but not about lack of hours.

Abbey, wherever you work, being employed and doing a good job is commendable.  I would work in McDonald's if it suited me to.  I would scrub floors if I needed to.  That's nothing to be ashamed of.  If anyone knocks it they can go whistle.  It's your life - not theirs.

The agency that called you probably arranges temporary staff to fill an immediate position which is why they wanted you to start straight away. You need to find an agency that finds long term employment. You also have to change your attitude. Stop dwelling on the past, Stop the drunken nights out. Be prepared to work all shifts and don't ask for days off for personal reasons, hairdresser etc. Be realistic in what you are capable of doing. Try supermarkets, basic cleaning, shelf stocking or temporary Xmas jobs.

I applied for a job just now in a warehouse will just have to see.

You can't go back to McDonald's because of your mental health?

You previously said that you enjoyed working at McDonald's, found your colleagues supportive, and only left because you moved house and it was too far away.

Question Author

I did at first and they were supportive.

That was b&m

Jeez, scorpiojo, do try to keep up. πŸ˜‚

It's very difficult, Douglas πŸ˜‚

Didn't you work at McDonald's for a year and a half, and then 5 years, even though you found it stressful?

Abbey, never ever be embarrassed by the job that you do.  Never.  No job should embarrass you and not a single person has the right to judge you.

Many years ago when I ran my own business, overnight my work dried up due to a recession.  Admittedly, it was only a few weeks before I was back on my feet again, but in that period, I tried everything to get a job - including seeing if the factory where my BF worked at the time needed someone to sweep the floors.  I did waitressing and bar work (which has actually proved very useful since at least I can add up stuff very quickly and carry 4 plates of food).

If someone judges you for the job you do, it says more about them than it does you.

Question Author

10 years ago I did for 5 years when I had friends there but then it went downhill then in 2021 for a year a half got stressful.

πŸ₯± it never changesπŸ˜’

Hmm, I ask the same question.

Maybe because you're a figment of your own imagination or possibly you're a figment of AB'S imagination, designed to keep threads flowing with lots of answers from people that appear concerned with your mental health πŸ€”

Who knows?

I'm answering what Scorpio said

Question Author

My mum said can't keep changing jobs

But she doesn't know you are only working a couple of hours a day because you don't want to tell her. She doesn't know that you've not ben able to make a success in any recent roles and have had your roles cutback

Question Author

She does know I've not had success in some of my roles.

That is an understatement
