You cannot earn enough at Selco based on  10 hours a week. You will never be able to save, pay your way and move out or afford holidays or a car.

The job you've been offered seems to be paying roughly 4 times  as much. It'll make a huge difference financially. You'll learn new skills and improve your chance of progressing your career. Take it while there is an offer. Give it 3 months to see if it's working out and save up as much as you can. Also pay back your mum some money and offer to pay a reasonable amount for 'keep'.

I wouldn't turn down this new job just in the hope you get the warehouse job. You may not get the warehouse job. You may NOT be able to do it even if you get it.

I know I haven't even been offered an interview for a warehouse job I'm just saying should I keep my options open? I have also been told if my heart is not in it don't take it but who knows.

I know I've said this before, Abbey, but some people do jobs they don't like and/or work with people they don't like because they need the money

Question Author

I get that but what if I get offered other interviews

Abbey, I think that you need to accept that any job that suits you and your current skills and abilities will be at minimum wage. Don't forget that minimum wage will be going up come April...so that is a pay rise to look forward to.

Abbey, you mentioned recently that you'd applied for loads of jobs and weren't even getting any interviews. Yes, this warehouse job has come up, and maybe other opportunities will come along too - but you'll need to be very realistic about the skills you have to offer. There may be jobs you would like, but that counts for nothing if you haven't got the ability or the experience needed. The last couple of years must have shown you how tough job-hunting can be?

//I get that but what if I get offered other interviews//

If everytime you get an offer of a job you think 'should I wait for something even better to come up' you'll remain at Selco on 10hrs a week for as long as they want you. I think Selco is a bit of a comfort blanket for you and 2 hours a day suits you, especially as you don't have to worry about housing/food costs and no-one at home seems to notice you're not working most of the day and have no money.

Well selco take people back if they leave in the right way. Tomorrow is the last day to hand in my notice or I could have done Monday but want Friday 22nd off.

Do you want the job Abbey or are you content only working 2 hours.

PS If I only worked 2 hours I would rarely have to take leave as I could fit most things in around the 2 hours.

Do you think that you have the skills that SELCO need and will seek to bring you back?

Abbey, I don't believe you want this new job.

Question Author

So I don't have to get up. Yes they would aslong I leave in the right they've taken few people. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Naomi what do I do?

Only you can decide, abbey.  You have a good opportunity but if you don't like the job even before you start I can't see you staying there - and then what?

Sorry but I think you are deluding yourself if you believe that SELCO will bring you back.

You need to move on and forge a new path

I am not so sure they'd take you back at Selco. They can probably fill the 10 hours work with someone like the guy who showed you recently how to clean  more effectively or they find a more experienced cleaner who isn't telling people they want to leave or complaining about some more senior staff.

I don't think you want this job either as you seem to be thinking of excuse after excuse.

I won't encourage you to take the new job any more abbey because I don't think you'll stick at it.  I think you have the wrong idea about work.  Very few people enjoy every aspect of a job.  In fact many do jobs they hate - but they do it because it earns them a living.  Until you understand that and are willing to do that I don't think you'll stick at any job.  The other one you fancy is, in my opinion, beyond your capabilities.  I doubt you would even be invited for an interview for that, so know your limitations and do the best you can to work with them.

They will just leave it to him or front desk staff as they got a recruitment ban. It ie a good opportunity but I'm in doubt. Obviously if I do take it I'll stay until I got one to go to. That's fine I'll keep looking until I get one more suitable if it don't work out.

I'm taking your comment on board Na if I don't want it don't take it.
