I have a number of convictions for violence (mostly against the police)
Im not proud of it. I have *NO* convictions against vunerable people...kids, women, elderly, disabled etc.. in fact I have been involved in charity/voluntary work with them (meals on wheels, minibus driving alzehimers patients around etc)
So why is it that I cant even get an interview, much less a job, in these areas?
I currently work at a foodbank warehouse where they have special needs people in for a day or two to do a bit, I work with them and help them around. Ive never been barred by a judge to work with such people.
So why is it that because Ive got a few issues with the police (police that have previously beat me up in the cells) that I cant even get an interview for a job that I know that I would be good at? (ive had 2 members of my family that were Downs syndrome, I cared for my disabled wheelchair father for the last years of his life and I virtually bought up my wheelchair spina bifida nephew)
But somehow im a t. wat when it comes to wanting a job where I have multiple experience with the less fortunate.

For f sakes, a few years ago, a charity shop even wanted a DBS check on me...

Thanks for other replies as well.
Bit disorienteded as just had a sleeping pill.
Go get some sleep then, nailit.
Have another look at your thread tomorrow.
Sorry Nailit, but look at it from the interviewers position. You have 20 + C.V.s in front of you and want to select say 3 to call in for an interview. You don’t know any of the 20 people. The first C.V. To be discarded will be yours.
I would say ring around, don't just apply online and speak to them. Pick up or take in your form in person and see if you can speak to somebody about it while you are there.

Loads of jobs here apparently for those who are motivated to apply.
I am quite surprised how many jobs are available up North compared with what little is on offer in the S.E.. So much for the N/S divide. Good luck nailit. Sure there is something out there that you can turn your hand to
Door knocking at parcel delivery services at 6am, with driving licence, has proved successful with TNT & Parcel Force. It shows eagerness & early start for work. You will be asked basic application details as theyre desperate for literate drivers. Good luck.
nailit - I've had an idea - hope you see this or someone alerts you to it.
You once mentioned that you had a friend who was a retired pastor. His word will count for a lot. Ask him if he will write you a reference/testimonial. Then, at interview, don't mention the convictions beforehand, but at the end do so and counter them with his testimonial. This may just work, hope it does. Sorry it took me so long to work it out.
Isn't there a back to work scheme to help people keep some of their benefits whilst easing them back into work?
Maybe this could help you become self-employed. Doing something that you really want to do.
Employers have to do checks on anyone applying for a with children or in Healthcare.
It is against the law however to refuse to give a job to someone with 'Spent Convictions'.
