Ok, I'll admit it I'm at a bit of a loose end and have decided to post a question I've been pondering for some time. Does anybody remember this programme please? Details are sketchy but I'll put down what I remember:
I believe it was BBC. Late 70's/early 80's. The plot revolved around some sort of gentleman's club or secret society. In order to become part of the club you had to tell a ghostly/scary story. If the story was not deemed to be fearful enough by those members present, the penalty was death.
One episode I recall had a woman attempting to join. Her story was not deemed frightening, until at the last moment a child-sized doll (like those sickening one's you see advertised on the back of Sunday supplement magazines) entered the room and left those present reeling in shock.
Very vague I'm sorry but that is all I can recall.
Any of you clever peeps remember anything like that from the dark and distant past?
If it helps I think it was on around the same time that ITV used to do a similar scary TV series (Armchair Thriller), the one where the Thames TV logo was blacked out i.e. night time.
Google searches for TV series similar to Armchair Thriller bring up the name 'Menace', though there's nothing on Wiki and it seems a little earlier than I thought too.
The episode (and I believe the whole series) I've mentioned would probably been set in Victorian times, possibly a little earlier.
