David Tennant will be seen raping his wife in a horrific 70-second scene in The Politician’s Husband.

The scene will be shown just after the 9p.m. watershed.

David Tennant is not necessary, one of the most unsexy men on telly!
Isn't this just a reflection of real life i.e. getting shafted up the wrong 'un by politicians?
Just because it's a 70 second scene doesn't mean we'll be seeing 70 seconds of anal sex.

/Zeuhl, it doesnt save an awful lot of time. (apparently we are talking around one minute here)/

my post was related to a minimalist concept for all art not just this particular drama

/gratuitous violence/ how do you know it is presented in a 'gratuitous' manner? Have you seen it? If you have, what are your specific reasons for judging it 'gratuitous'?

/that does nothing to help the storyline/ how do you know it doesn't 'help the storyline? Have you seen it? If you have, what are your specific reasons for deciding it 'does not help the storyline'?

/only feeds those who enjoy this kind of aberration and upsets those who don't./

How do you know that? Who says? Can you provide links to the studies of this particular drama that support your personal opinions?
Is it necessary? Of course it isn't.
Is it desirable? Depends Jon your point of view.
Does it add an extra " something?" Of course it does.
Is it an erotic or exciting something? Yes, to some and no to others.
Is it a male fantasy anal or vaginal rape? Yes it may be.
Do some women fantasise about being raped? Yes some do.

Clearly the rape scene will not please all viewers, but others will have an added exciting, erotic emotion to please them.
Sqad -you answered the OP with your first sentence -the rest was it for your own titillation? ;-)

"The attack occurs after Aiden’s MP wife, Freya Gardner (Emily Watson) is seen in a romantic embrace with her husband in bed, but after a few seconds the atmosphere switches and romance is out of the window as Aiden exerts his power in a vile and savage way."

Expect most of the 70 ssconds to be the romantic embrace.
It's not something I would personally wish to view, especially just after 9pm, but I don't think it's anything 'new', as such.
70 seconds does seem a bit long for something so disturbing.

Sqad, sometimes you really do disgust me...

Forty years after 'Last Tango'

Forty years after the 'Oz trial'

Fifty years after the Lady Chatterley trial ...

and people are STILL getting their knickers in a twist because they disagree with an element in a piece of creative work by intelligent, talented, thoughtful artists and want it stopped because in their opinion it is 'unnecessary'

Like that has ever had anything to do with it
If you think 70 seconds is 'unecessarry' I suggest you never watch 'Irreversable'- that has a none minute real time rape scene...
*nine* -sorry, fat fingers:(
sqad - I doubt many women fantasise about being raped.
It's not the first time you have confused 'Force-fantasies' with rape.

If any of you have a clock in your room watch it for 70 seconds.........do you *really* believe that the BBC would show a graphic rape scene for *that* long?!?
magsmay....LOL

Well, I knew two women who fantasised about rape, one O had taken to the cinema to watch the film Straw Dogs, where, if you remember there was a rape scene. She asked me to take her back to her cottage, tie her to the bed and rape her.
Another girl of 17 years of age who worked in my dept fantasised about being raped by Barry White, the black singer.
Rape as a fantasy is quite common amongst women.
to far this time sqad.......
Sqad

be honest now

those two women...

that's you isn't it?
Yes as a fantasy by whom they fancy doing the raping- but then it's NOT rape. No-one really fantasises about being raped by someone they don't like.
she asked to be raped/ oh please sqad stop now / who asks to be raped ?
JTH...I like many on AB get easily confused, but we are lucky enough to have you to " put us straight"
She didn't ask to be raped sqaud because she ASKED- she asked you to fulfil a fantasy but that is not rape.
