She just murdered Don't Cry For Me Argentina. Her voice is not a patch on what it used to be. Why don't singers like her, Elton, Macca, etc, realise when they're past it and pack it in?

If you Google this: 'Strictly Come Dancing Series 14: Week 11 Results' Its on Iplayer.
It starts at 14.10
Cheers I will!
Don't the paying public decide when it's time to pack in?

No point doing a concert if nobody comes through the door.
Becauuse people give them a wad of money to perform.
Just watched it, it wasn't that bad at all, she's just lost the power of her voice, she's 68.
I went to a Brian Ferry gig a few years ago and his voice sounds exactly (and I really mean exactly) like it always has. He must be the exception though.
agree with that, 237SJ, but he wasn't exactly a power singer, though he did plenty of up-tempo numbers; I think it's easier to croon into old age than to perform showstoppers. But JTH is right, anyway: Argentina has belonged to Julie Covington since 1977. (Is she still singing?)
I kind of thought the loss of perfection in her voice made the song more haunting.
I went to see Evita in London in the 70s with someone who bought tickets for me as a surprise. I can't recall who sang the leading roll at the time, it wasn't Covington, May be it was Elaine Paige, my memory fails me.
Did Julie Covington do the show? I remember her releasing the single.
Wiki says “no”. She sang on the concept album but turned down the stage show
I don't think so woof, yes I remember the single.
I wish I could remember.
I remember it as a bit of a marketing coup. This knockout single and album were released and generated a lot of puzzlement and interest. By the time the stage show was out there, the advertising was done!
Yes there was a buzz. Must have been Elaine Paige then!
I also commented at the time her voice had deteriorated.
