having read ynnafymmi's post below about great expectations, in which she asserts it's the best film ever made on 4 separate occasions, i was wondering what YOU thought the best film ever made was - it may or may not be your favourite film, but what is it for you?

Capernaum but it is a relative new film (I think). Story was lovely.

The Mummy (1999)
The Thing (1982)
Without a doubt
" It's a Wonderful Life "

Starring James Stewart

Good old George Bailey and Clarence Odbody

Love My westerns. so has to be The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
or True Grit (original with big John)
Lol really?
Then The Mummy as I have watched that over 200 times
Once upon a time in the west.
Darby O'Gill and the Little People.
too many films - too many genres.

"Once upon a time in America" ?
or maybe which film is so emotive it always brings you out in tears?

"Out of Africa" ?
Best comedy sci-fi

"The Fifth Element" ?
zulu
Field of Dreams.
Blade Runner
Brief Encounter.

Steam Trains, Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto with Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard being "tirribly, tirribly' restrained and British.
For it's time 1986 before CGI 'Highlander' it had everything for me.
Some like it hot.
Possibly Gladiator for me - the story, acting, cinematography and music stellar - and what they did with Oliver Reed's demise mid-film was quite remarkable. There are others up there such as The Good The Bad and The Ugly, High Plains Drifter and Chariots of Fire - and, of all things, Finding Neverland, Amadeus, and Miss Potter.
in the sci-fi genre, the 1951 version of The Day The Earth Stood Still, with Michael Rennie as Klaatu.
