Was it Pierrepoint,Stewart or Allen? If it was the latter 2 why is the film The last Hangman based on Pierrepoint? Or was he the last to die?

You forgot Syd Dernley - the last hangman to 'perform' in public in Britain.

ahhh forgot one :)
The last hanging in the UK was actually two hangings performed on the same day at exactly the same time in both Manchester and Liverpool so that no one person could claim the 'honour'.

Just a foot note to this question... Ive read Syd Dernley's book (A Hangman's Tale..Pan Books) and he never actually pulled the lever on an excution. He was only the assistant.
