I think that most gay couples are quiet and courteous.
If a landlord had asked them to stop snogging, they would have said "Oh, sorry", smiled, and ordered the next round.
Unfortunately, there are too many "militant" gays who never pass up an opportunity to make a scene.
I think most "proper" gays would just laugh at this ridiculous couple, running off to the media like a couple of bratty children.

But you also have to remember that a lot of landlords have no problem with people canoodling ... including guy couples.
There's a pub near here called the Princess Victoria which is, essentially, a lesbian pub. Girls go there knowing that they can snog all they like, and won't be asked to leave.
But I do think this couple picked the wrong pub, so I'm not going to side with them.
If I come back from a bike ride, and I'm all sweaty, and I'm wearing wet cycle shorts and muddy trainers, I wouldn't walk into the bar of The Grand Hotel for a drink.
You have to pick your venue to suit your circumstances.

times do change and not always for the better....once upon a time great measures were taken by celebrities to hide their sexuality Hollywood studios went to great expense to hide their stars sexuality,Now they are open about it which I think is a good thing.However,I think that the modern world has gone too far in this matter eg allowing same sex ouples to adopt children and thus influencing future generations by saying gay relationships are normal.
Each to their own and as long as I dont witness any signs of blatent gay interaction I am happy. Of course in the olden days there was no aids....I wonder why.|

And, sadly, those militant "in your face" gays are creating a bad image for the gay population.

Well, most gays are not like that. They are nice, respectful people.

I don't see how these people were 'flaunting' or how this case has anything to do with 'flaunting'. Your defintion of 'flaunting' appears to mean 'existing'.
As for the whole argument of "why must the gays force it in our faces" - the simple fact is that 'they' don't feel like they are. When you're talking about everyday life (just to stop anyone moaning about Gay Pride parades), most gays don't 'get up to' anything more in a public place than a heterosexual couple does, which really isn't too much to ask. If something as basic as that makes you uncomfortable, I don't really see that it's a one-way thing of 'well I don't like it, so they must stop it' - if you don't like it, then it sometimes it just might be you who has an obligation to tolerate it.
As for this particular case, I don't necessarily accept sp's argument that this must have been a homophobic incident purely on the basis that several other posters have mentioned times when heterosexual couples have been turfed out for kissing. I do however find the hawkish vigilance that appears to have been displayed by the landlord just a little bit suspicious.

is a pretty shoddy definition of 'decency'.
