A very interesting point was raised on the Mathew Wright Show today
Are foreign workers really taking our jobs?
or as a Nation, are we too lazy?
Who really is to blame?
The company's for exploiting foreign workers by paying them a lot less?
This is always an emotive topic so let me state here and now, I am not being a Racist bigot

If the migrant workers weren't here, the sort of jobs they are doing probably wouldn't appeal to many others - lots are working vegetable picking and so on. IMO if the benefits system was similar to what it is in France, you can only claim for a year then if you haven't got a job after that, your benefit stops, or so I believe.
I've not read through all the posts but am wondering if 'foreign workers' are non-EU for the point of this discussion.
If they are EU members then they can work here and we can similarly work in other EU countries.
However, as a nation (UK) it would appear that there are jobs which 'are below us'. Why, I've no idea, if no-one cleaned the loo in an up-market place, it wouldn't be up-market for long would it?

I was saying I was not blaming the immigrants taking from the system but the lady sods who wont do the menial work then bleat that that foreign workers take their jobs and I still think bosses exploit them, maybe it's all been said but because I asked for the thread in CB to be removed as a respect, I will try valiantly to ignite this one

I must admit I wouldn't tootle to Latvia or it's ilk.
I'm just curious as to why come here, are we the only EU country with a minimum wage?
(Honestly, I've no idea) They must have to go through other countries before they get here. (I don't have a problem with much or any of it) I only ask in order to get a better understanding of the whole caboodle.

We often see on TV Afghans etc being interviewed from the Jungle camp outside Calais, being asked why they don't stay in France and why they want to come to the UK - almost inevitably they say they will have a house and a job, and get married and have a family. It seems that they think that this country is some sort of Shangri-La - and tbh the French don't want them either.
