Why is it necessary to whow it? It can't be vital to the story? OK Sp points out below that there was an "uproar" over a gay bedroom scene. My question is, why must we have it on TV soaps at all. We all know about bandit bedroom activities, why is it vital to show it in TV before the watershed? come to that why are soaps exempt from normal watershed rules anyway?

I read Pauls answer out to my OH yesterday....

<it's nice to see these people are fine with letting their 10 year olds watch stories about being a crack addict, stealing other peoples babies and murder but not with watching 2 men have a kiss and a cuddle!>
I know Andy....but there hasn't been an 'apparent' uproar about it so far!!
Yeah, but that's 'normal'......innit ! :o)
Were they actually showed engaging in sexual activity geez - or just in bed, talking or hugging? Or, shock horror, were they actually shown to be kissing?
Just in bed. Christian sitting up and Si resting on his chest.
Paul's comment is spot on, ummmm. That is what I meant when I spoke about violence being OK, but not sex. It's a weird, weird world.
Oooooooh, how disgusting ummmm. Dreadful - resting on his chest? Whatever next!!

Can we delete the word 'sex' from this discussion, because the characters in question were NOT engaging in any sex act at all.

It would be wildly inappropriate for any drama to feature actual sexual content before the watshed, gay or straight.

Furthermore, can we avoid referring to them as 'naked'. They were in bed with the covers drawn up to their chests.

If they had been banging away like a couple of steam engines, then yeah - I would agree with the sentiment that it's not right for early evening entertainment - but it wasn't anything like that.
Do you also object to bestiality scenes ?
How about necrophilia scenes ?
Why not allow the whole gamut ?

Personally I like the homosexual scenes, but only when it is girl on girl action. Hairy arsed bloke on hairy arsed bloke would tend to bore somewhat. They have nothing interesting to flash.
<Do you also object to bestiality scenes ?

Of course....they are illegal.

Oh double standards - it's alright to watch girl-on-girl action but not man with man?!! And I think bestiality and necrophilia a little different to just plain homosexual affection.

I don't watch Corrie so I couldn't possibly comment....
Oh stop being so silly Doc....*sigh*
As per ummmm with her answer Old Geezer.
and her answer to Doc.

Until dead people and animals can give their consent I think it will remain illegal.
