They are producing 2 million copies maybe thinking that people would buy them as a souvenir to hand to their children or grandchildren. In 50 years time they will be worth no more than the current price so whats the point. If not replaced think of the trees that will save.
I believe the print run today was 5 million copies. On a normal sunday they sell 2.5 million.

/// So they appear to have routinely broke the law. They routinely, it appears, corrupted the police. ///

Please correct me if I am wrong (I am sure you will), but surely it isn't against the law to try and corrupt the police, but it is unlawful for the police to be corrupted.

One can surely try and bribe a police officer, but it is only an offence for such an officer to accept the bribe.
Notwithstanding - Murdoch has said that all profits from today's excessive sales of the final NOTW will all be donated to charity.
Sorry, meant to draw attention to this bit:

Those who offered bribes to police officers must expect a custodial sentence, especially where the offer was repeated on a number of occasions. Any attempt to bribe a police officer in the execution of his duty was a serious matter.
"Please correct me if I am wrong (I am sure you will), but surely it isn't against the law to try and corrupt the police"

Do you seriously think that! have you not heard of the common law offence of "Perverting the course of justice" which is "where a person acts or embarks upon a course of conduct which has a tendency to, and is intended to pervert the course of public justice"

Note "intended to pervert"

Thanks for your support, I don't know why you should be scared to highlight injustices if you feel they must be highlighted, providing of course that they are lawful and within the Site Rules.

Just go for it, the more the merrier.

Thank you for correcting me, but I really didn't think a police officer would arrest you just for offering him a cash sum to look the other way, I can understand it if you have already committed a crime and tried to bribe him to him to forget about it.
AoG - If you are that confident, give it a go sometime - try strolling up to a copper and offering them some cash ;)
