When they were raising children, today’s grandparents were most likely to ground (49 per cent), smack (45 per cent) or send their children to their bedroom (49 per cent) as a punishment.
When their children misbehaved they also faced receiving no pocket money (33 per cent), being sent to bed with no dinner (12 per cent) and having their ears boxed (seven per cent).
Many of these grandparents are alive today and despite, nearly 50% used smacking, it was abolished ....??

trigger...indeed a small sample, but that doesn't mean that the results should be ignored, but assessed in the light of a small sample.
The point of my post was to highlight the opinions of the previous generation, not to say whether it was right or otherwise. There is still a significant group of people who would support the 50% of 500 interviewed....and these are members of the teaching profession........I have been informed.

sqad, I see what you are saying, as a child I was never smacked but was taught right from wrong and how to conduct myself, there are varying types today, those who turn a blind eye to the way their kids behave, those who use the softly softly approach and those who can discipline with fairness and firmness, maybe it was always like this ?
