/// Islamic Sharia law will be the ‘basic source’ of legislation in free Libya, its new leader has proclaimed. ///

/// It could also prove deeply embarrassing to David Cameron as he ordered the £1billion mission to back the rebels despite advice from all sides urging caution. ///

Did I hear someone shout "I TOLD YOU SO"?

That sounds quite surprising to me.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. You have to feel sorry for anyone forced to live under Sharia Law, especially the women.
I heard this too AOG when the newly elected governing bodies spokesman spoke after the death OF Gaddafi

Al Queda and the Taliban are rubbing their hands already

// Glad you are convinced the Libyan rebels are better than the other lot. As hardly anypne knows anything about them, I will wait and see before they get my vote. //

// We do not really know our new friends yet, and there behaviour and actions over the next few months need to closely watched before we can say they are acting democratically. My guess is they won't be. //
I said as much before, when this was all kicking off, that no one would know how this would pan out, or end, and if they impose Sharia law, why does it come as a surprise, because someone says, lets have a democratic country, doesn't mean they will. And it's not a case of i told you so. They have a long way to go, and who knows the country could still fall into anarchy, if the many don't want sharia law, or indeed the kind of leader they have currently.
ME,why am I not surprised, Sharia law will go across the whole arabic awakening mark my words.
Brenden, i think it was you and i, and i'm sure naomi, who said this from the off, but there was a lot of no that won't happen, i remember it well, as the saying goes.
So do I em.
out of the proverbial frying pan, and into a very hot fire.
libyan law already derives from sharia, so i can't see much of a change. as claimed by the transition leader, perhaps these will be a more moderate type.
Is there a moderate islam ankou?
Now lets watch, wait and see what direction Egypt and Tunisia go.
its the sort of dual system that exists in turkey, israel and maldives etc.

have you not travelled off the island ?
Lets not get abrasive Ankou, take a look at the whole picture then tell me how do you rate Israels position.
i wasn't - plenty of people travel to muslim countries for their holidays, to countries which operate a moderate law based on shariah without even noticing.
How about going to muslim countries to live and build churches and synagogues to practice ones faith in peace- not just holidays?
Brenden, i wait with baited breath to the outcome of this arab spring, or will it be a winter of discontent.
"How about going to muslim countries to live and build churches and synagogues to practice ones faith in peace"

why would i do that, i'm atheist.
